I was talking to my friend about getting my own horse and that I had been looking a lot online.
She suddenly interrupted me and said "NEVER buy online! What are you thinking?!"

I don't see how else I can do it, as I don't really know many people in the horse world, unless my YO can point me in the direction of something.

How many of you have bought online?
(P.S I don't mean emailing someone and paying via Paypal or anything. I mean looking at ads online, then going to see the horse etc...)

are you sure she hasn't got the wrong end of the stick? That you are actually buying something unseen or something?

Nearly everyone posts the ads of their horses online nowadays...

Yes I have bought horses advertised on line and from adds in horse and hound and by word of mouth and once I walked into a school and said what's that horse and ended up bringing her home my best horse came from a small add in the local paper.
Theres no right way but one thing I do know you have to kiss alot of frogs to find a prince.

Unless she wasn't listening to me, I can't understand how she would think I would buy unseen.
She's known me for 16 years too! She knows I'd never do that.
It was a very strange thing for her to say, as she's always looking at ads online!!

My youngster was bought after seeing an ad online. Emailed the seller asked for photos. Went to see him, fell in love and bought him there and then!

I've only brought one of my horses off the net, one I brought from an ad in my local saddlery, one from a wanted ad and one from a local dealer. Then one from a local riding school. I had them all but the one from the dealer on a short trial before I brought.

I bought one highland from having seen the ad online and heading up there to see him. I bought the second off the same breeder on the strength of photos, videos and trusting that breeder, though I did go and see him before I brought him down :D

Mine came from the most uninspiring advert on horsemart one of them ones that you say you dont like as it has no decent pictures or much info in. But he is fab :D he's taken a lot of work to get him where he is but I wouldnt change him now and definatly couldnt afford to buy him now .

As long as you take some one expiereanced along with you thats not going to get emotionally involved and have it 5 stage vetted then theres not much else you can do wether you buy from word of mouth or the internet.

Thanks I am a bit biased :p its ok he is used to incompetents he lives with me :D

Must say your 3 are fab if I ever go looking for a highland will be after one like them. Even if little D did scare speshul .

Well he puts up with being stuck in the "speshul" group at PC ;) He is super though - thank heavens we had him to set the pace in canter or we'd never have got anywhere at any speed!

D is in love with Speshul Yellow One  I've never seen him so fascinated! Fergs is more fun when he's fit and on jumping form - he was just hopping over it

Was sooo cute! Poor Rob looked so confused/cross about it and that made D even more interested!

Love the yellow pony. Nitty came from online. She is a walking vet bill but she is great otherwise!

I should honestly stop looking. Found a fantastic 8yr old Cob mare, spotted too! I was after a gelding, but she looks so perfect for me :(

How long do they usually stay online? I've noticed her before on there and that was a few weeks ago? Is it unheard of for horses to be advertised for months without interest?

A woman turned up at the yard the other week desperate for a livery place for her new pony that was arriving - it was mostly likely a shetland and probably gelded  Turns out it was a shetland but not gelded so she sent it back and another one was delivered in its place. Luckily YO wouldnt let her on the yard!

The first place I look when looking for a horse is the internet! Found my mare on horsemart, rang up as soon as I saw the advert (had only just been put on), went to try her 2 days later then got her vetted the next week and bought her home the day after that! Not sure why your friend thought it was so wrong, i think nearly everyone does it!

Saw this on the internet 2004. He was in France. So expensive to travel and see him so bought him without seeing him, paid in Euros by bank transfer, had him shipped over. He was 5 months old. Gorgeous, but I woudn't normally recommend this way, I took a chance and got away with it. He is my best friend, has sired 9 foals, won numerous championships and was the easiest horse to back and is the loveliest ride, great movement.

This was him in 2008:

He's an American Appaloosa in case anyone is wondering. A bay few spot snowcap. Great for producing colour.

Its ok he was already sexually confused before that  I think he would have run and hid in the corner if he could at that point as thats his normal response . But he might get to see his little lover some time before we go home if I finish this blimmin assinment and get packed in time :D.

We will have to have another meet up when he's fit again :D
