I've been meaning to do this for ages and finally went round in the car today following my usual exercise route:-
From Yard
0.4 miles: walking on road
0.6 miles: trotting on road up hill to cattle grid.
0.5 miles: trotting across the moor on the flat.
0.4 miles: cantering across the moor uphill, flat and slightly down again
0.2 miles: walk across moor downhill.
0.2 miles: final canter across moor uphill to cattle grid.
0.6 miles: walk downhill on road
0.2 miles: trot uphill.
0.1 miles: walk up drive back to yard.
Total 3.2 miles. Approx 25 mins depending on the going.
This is one of my shorter routes but probably most frequently done - obviously as we ride on open moor I can vary my rides a lot but do like to do some roadwork. I ride and lead every morning my two mares, they are both schooled for an hour once a week and hunted about once a week/fortnight (less in the shooting season bearing in mind our hunting season is from 1st Aug to 30th April). This seems to keep them fit (and the dogs!!).
I am surprised that this route is only 3 miles I thought it was longer.
How does this compare to your daily exercise?
