Have you ever felt like a terrible rider?

When I retired my 'been there, seen it, done it' push button easy mare and started with my new youngster, found that I hadn't been doing any actual 'riding' for years, just staying on while the mare did all the work! I do miss her.

OMG!!!

Do I know that one! just realised I can't actually ride and its no wonder new horse takes the p*** cos I just pointed my mare in the right direction and she did the rest. Now I think I need to sell him cos I;m not good enough to even sit on him!

Every time I ride and I actually am terrible when I first get on :o

I was launched off a horse a few weeks ago when he planted in canter, dropped his head and shoulder and watched me flying through the air. Although I got straight back on but each time I've got on a horse, for some reason I've become more and more nervous.

I was horse shopping and bought the mare I have not long after my stunt action (apparently it looked quite spectacular :D ). She's as solid as a rock, not a bad bone in her body and a dream to ride. She puts up with my nervous, never sat on a horse act, she does try it on but only attempting to cut corners, heads towards the gate to stand there if I let her but she soon gets down to it as my confidence rises.

I've also got a fabulous YO and instructor (both the same person). She's got me sussed, is patient with me, forceful when she needs to be, makes me talk when I'm holding my breath :D

As I said, I am terrible when I first get on and a little better when I relax.

For me, its a mixture of determination, a great YO/instructor and as many Rescue Remedy pastilles I can fit in my mouth

It's a good thing that people question their riding technique and do something about it, it makes for a better rider.
