have you ever had a horse/pony that never needed vet??

Just got me wondering after reading the insurance thread!

The 1st pony we had, had copd & a tumour in her eye so had loads of vets treatment, but the last 2 ponies that spanned over the last 6yrs have never been injured, lame or ill so apart from jabs & sedation for clipping haven't needed a vet!

Do you own one that stays trouble free too?? :)
 
1st pony - only vaccinations
2nd pony - vaccinations and one call out for suspected lamintis, it wasn't so didn't need any follow ups
3rd pony - only vaccinations

Current horse - vaccinations and we now use our vet for dental treatment.
 
Brown horse is very good and only has vaccs and teeth. Touch wood. He's six now and friend has known him since 18 months and apart from being gelded that is it!
 
Only needed vet for vacc's and once for sedation so dentist could remove a tooth but otherwise in 7 years he's always been fit and healthy..touch wood! :D
 
I had an elderly horse who only ever needed teeth & jabs doing, until the last 3 months of his life. Then he had the vet more but it still wasn't a huge amount of money. I was very lucky with him.
 
Iv had my mare 5 years and up until last September I only needed them for 1 call out to a kick which needed staples. We where stabled so close to the vets we rode there to get routine jabs to save the call out fee for a 3 minute drive. Last September however, my luck changed. £600 over 4 months in 4 different issues, it was a joke. Between box rest and snow she was out for about 6 weeks over the height of winter!!
 
I had a horse (arab) from birth who did not need the vet until she was 20 (apart from vacs etc), she then had nasty photosensivity related mud fever and a year later fell and cracked her hip and was retired.
 
Up until last year Lottie had only had jabs and a visit for colic after too much sea water while swimming and 2 stitches in an over reach cut from out hunting.

Not too bad in 15 years (plus the year I new her b4 I bought her.)

Last year she was not too well and doubled the visit total! Still, not too bad and she now gets checked when the others are vaccinated spring and autumn so still economical on call out fees!
 
I got my boy aged 5 years and only had the vet out for vaccs, apart from the day he was put to sleep as he broke his leg in the field aged 25!
Saying that, I have still insured my new one, you just never know with horses.
 
My pony has hardly seen the vet (can't think what he has seen them for but nothing major) in 17 years. The vet did come out for him once though after I thought he had done serious damge to his leg (he was on 3 legs!). Turned out to just be an abscess though. After draining it the vet gave penicillin as abscess had been brewing for a long time. Cue pony on the verge of death for 2 days as seemingly he is allergic to penicillin!!! Well, we never knew as he's never been treated for anything before!!!
