Wow, sounds like it's potent stuff! It was the new-fangled spray in/liquid version I used, so I shall try this time with the bog standard tin and see how we go. Thanks for your help
Yes - the old boy I look after has a persistent case of thrush and I don't like the insuation that it's down to his foot care, or lack of.
He's a cob, he's barefoot, gets his feet picked out at least daily, has regular trims, has a deep clean shavings bed, and the fields aren't too muddy either.
I believe the underlying reason he has thrush is he has sheared heals in two feet, whether this is because of the thrush or because his feet aren't properly balanced who knows - its a chicken and egg situation. He has other lameness issues in both legs affected so personllay I think its because of that. The farrier says the only thing he can do is fit egg bar shoes to help with the shearing but as he's a field ornament we aren't keen on spending too much on shoes.
He's now so fed up of his feet being washed and soaked he won't let me near them with any sort of bottle in my hand - I think something must have stung at some point.
My own horse (a tb) doesn't have thrush. The only difference in the foot care is she is shod.
Yep, previous horse had it as he had very deep clefts in his feet, even had it in the summer! His feet were spotless you could eat your dinner from them but he still suffered.
I used to pick feet out, scrub with the brush to get any remaining bits out and then spray 2 x week with sheep foot rot spray from vets, and then in between scrub with pefadine (sp?). Kept it in check but never totally got rid of it with him.
Never had it with Pidge touch wood
