If that makes sense?
I have, i placed a wanted ad stating i wanted a novice ride between about 14.2-15.3hh
I got an email from a woman saying they have a horse which would be ideal for me. Got talking, arranged a viewing, on the phone they were saying how we sound just like what they were looking for and sure we would be a perfect match.
When we got there, she 'looked down at us' and talked to us like we were stupid. She sounded completely different to how she acted on the phone and through emails :(
I didnt want to ride because i felt nervous and VERY intimidated by her, so my friend rode her for me and i got on after and walked back to the yard. I was quite happy with the horse, she had built my hopes up and everything, then said she will think about it and get in touch with me in a few days. More than a week passed and i decided to email her myself, to which she replied saying her horse was not a novice ride and doesnt think i would be suitable.....Then WHYYY did she respond to my advert if her horse wasnt right for me?!!?

Sorry, moan over, Have you ever had your time wasted by a buyer? Or had a similar experience like mine? :D

Some people have no brains, silly woman lol
I rang up about a horse for sale before I got my present horse. Advert sounded perfect and woman on the phone sounded very genuin, horse had done RC, xc, sj, in an outline blah blah sounded perfect for 2500. Well when we went to see the horse they said oh he'll throw a buck now and again, it did 3 times but didnt really bother me. Then they said oh he wont pass a 5 stage vetting due to an old injury on hind leg, gee ta for letting me no  Price was reduced but if they had of told me this on the phone it wouldnt have wasted both our times grrrrr ... but atleast i found my lovely CHEAPER SOUND horse after that :D

yeah i got told one horse has been lightly backed and there would be a rider available to show me....

got there and was told "i can ride if i want... we wont be.." :D

i left sharpish lol.

I have had my time wasted several times I went to look at a stocky dales 14.1hh mare to find a 13.2hh finely built black pony, turned out the seller thought it was dales because it was black. And also quite a few horses that turned out to be older than a conker tree and not the advertised age, also arranged to view a horse that was being tried whilst I was asking for directions on the phone to be told it was sold when I got there seller never told me it was being tried that day and could be sold before I left to drive the 70 mile journey.
I have proberly had more time wasting experiences than I care to remember, ggrrrrr

Years ago, went to see a horse advertisted as a riding club all rounder, when i got there they had forgot to say that they didn't have any tack for it so couln't ride. I asked about the scratches on its back and turns out it had been covered by a stallion the week before and they hadn't thought to mention it in advert or on the phone.....

Hmmm sounds like they wanted to get rid of a little pregnant pony

Years ago we travelled miles to see a potential JA 14.2hh, got there and it was about 12.2hh. On the way back, dad called to see an old farmer friend who lived not far from the pony and it turns out, pony had been bought from the local auction about a week earlier.

About 2 1/2 hrs drive. I was a teenager at the time and was so excited as money was tight and my dad had agreed I could have it. I remember seeing this tiny Strawberry Roan and thought, is that it!!

I went to see one horse that was suppose to be suitable for RDA really nice quiet type. When i got there it looked like it had never been sat on. The bloke got on and the poor horse didn't have a clue, It then started rearing. I left shortly after....

Yes-was looking for a pony for my then 10 year old novice brother that would stay with me untill my son had outgrown it(so a ome for life,as was pregnant at the time).
Found what seemed like the perfect pony, sellers very helpfull on phone.
Explained exactly what I was looking for(safe & sane, did not have to be HOYS quality)that I was too tall to ride a 13 hh myself and was not comftable putting a novice chid up without seeing the pony ridden first ect ect.

When we went to view,no child to ride pony as promised.
Pony was 14.2 NOT 13 HH and about as far from the saint described as it's possable to get!
Later found out that there was no child to ride as the pony had dumped her onto the arena fence and the child refused to get back on(don't blame her!).

Short version, there are good and bad out there but while buyers tend to think "oh well, was not right for us" sellers like to moan that anyone not despeate to buy then and there is a time waster.
Personaly, would be very worried about a potential buyer that saw a horse for 5 seconds and handed cash over :o

Cant remember if it a mare or gelding, it was years ago, as in years :o:eek:
It was young, think it was 4 yrs old.
Why? You didnt view it too did you :D

Oh fair enough haha nahh thought it mightve been recent, i think last year we had a foal, strawberry roan and on the first day we put him in a small paddock so he wasnt with the horses, just about to leave and he jumped the fence  it was 2 fences, one was about 2 feet infront of the other and about 4 or 5 foot high, and this tiny little foal cleared it and galloped off to the other horses.....where he was then attacked by the gelding :o
so, im guessing it wasnt him then :D but if it was, you wouldve had a lucky escape! He was a little Git! :D

I must be able to pick them - I'd have said 50-75% of the time time wasted - visits phone calls - offering what they're asking for then they stick the price up...and on and on... got so fed up I've bought something I wasn't looking for twice now - but all turned out well so shouldn't complain too much ;)

I phoned a place that had a couple of ponies for sale. Had a long chat about what I was looking for and it seemed the ponies would suit so we set off for a 2 hour drive. Got lost on the way and phoned for directions so spoke to sellers again. The first pony wasn't 14hh, more like 13hh and looked about 30 years old. It was very sweet but not what we wanted. The second one was lovely so she was tacked up and we saw her ridden in the school, then 3 of us each had a ride. Well she was great and we said we were definitely interested but obviously would want to see her ridden on the road etc.
That was when the seller told us someone had already put a deposit on her. Grrr!

Well thats not fair :( Like you got your hopes up and then found out it was already sold. did they say when the deposit was placed? if it was like a day or two before you viewed surely they couldve let you know :(

I went to view a horse about two hours away. The directions were terrible but we eventually found it even though there was no yard sign at the end of some random driveway.

We wandered about and couldn't find anyone there and when we did find people in the arena, one riding and two sat drinking coffee, they had a massive moan at us for being (about 20 minutes!) late.

Then they said, "He's got a bit of a cut on his leg anyway but you can probably still ride him".

So one of them takes us round to see this horse which, besides having some of the worst pigeon toes and straightest hocks I've ever seen, had a gaping wound and a massively thick, red hot hind leg that it wouldn't weight bear on. When we told them, relatively rudely ;) that we weren't interested, this woman still insisted we watch it trot up as "its cut didn't look that bad" We then told them more rudely that we really weren't interested and they got the message that time! :D

This has reminded me of another.
I had viewed loads, so out of desperation phoned a local dealer who hasnt got the best reputation. The things you do and shouldnt!
They said they had a nice chestnut that sounded ok, so off we go and was shown a very sorry looking horse with a massive knee and barely weight bearing.
They said he'd just done it and would be ok in a few days.

Arround the same time I viewed another horse at a dealers yard and didnt like it, asked if he had anything else and he shown me a nice horse but said I couldnt ride it as its tongue had a wire cut and that he would call me when it was ok. He did but I declined.
Its so sad what these horses must go through.

I know, it was a shame as she really was just right. The people who'd put the deposit on had gone off on holiday for a fortnight so the seller definitely knew she was sold when we spoke on the phone. I still don't know what the point of it was, they had nothing to gain by wasting their own time as well as ours. Oh well, we have a beautiful boy now and love him to bits

Gosh is this what I have to look forward too? have just done the selling and will start looking for a new friend end of next year (will have my oldies to ride in the mean time!)
When I had my 2 for sale recently I think I used to put people off being too honest, even though never did as had everyone who called viewed as they admired the honesty, I dont she the point in someone wasting there time and yours to turn up to see something not as advertised, am always brutaly honest. Although horses are horses and my mare did find it highly amusing to show one rider that she really could not ride as she maybe could in her dreams when she decided to leap forward in canter, she had never done it and to this day has never done it since, with this certain lady she also backed off when tied up and broke her twine, she obviously didnt like that one, I felt so guilty and couldnt stop apologising, horses grrrr!!
But horses with wounds, old horse and miniture horse, what do some sellers think!

friend of mine went to see a horse recently, advertised as broken and turned away last year bt done nothing since, she got there and it turned out it had only had groundwrk and had a few issues. she asked to see it ridden they said no, she asked to see it lead out they said no, she then asked if they could put headcollar on they said no and then for some reason the bloke leapt on it INSIDE THE STABLE and then fell off it, she said it was beautiful fell pony tho!!!!!!!!:p

Yep. Rang up about a horse advertised, that they didn't even have?!?!? Said down the phone about a coloured cob colt [yearling] etc etc, arranged to view it. Got there and she was like 'He's in his stable, let me get his tack.'
At which point we were like....wtf? A yearling? Ridden?!?!? Went to look in the stables she'd pointed at and there was nothing we could see in the first one and a fully grown cob in the next...so we assumed the little foal we'd rung up about was in the stable we couldn't see below door height.
Anyway turned out to be the coloured cob [8 y/o] in the stable she bought out and tacked up for us [which was some relief on top of our confusement too!]
We asked where the foal was and she didn't have a clue what foal we were on about?!?

Was odd.

Did some googling and turned out the colouredcolt we were interested was in Lincoln somewhere and HorseMart or something must have had an error and mixed up some adverts details!!!!
Finally found a number the cob colt after, rang up and she'd JUST sold it :'(

yep i went few year ago miles away too to try a 16.2. had to take hubby and kids as well due to distance got there and as much much as i tried seller wouldnt tack /give me a saddle to try/or offer to ride horse a bit strange tbh what a wast of time he halved the price of horse if i bought without trying but was no good if i couldnt try it .Another i rang up about the guy advertised as quiet hack/broodnare on the phone for ages he made it quite clear he didnt want me to ride her and had all the excuses no insurance, shoes , etc i did have a drive by and seen her in field was galloping and really unsettled .
Maybe this lady was better talking on the phone to people anyway and different face to face try not to worry about it maybe thats the way she is

Too many times...mostly when going with friends as a second pair of eyes. Drove across to central Wales once to try a horse following the usual preliminary phone calls. My friend even phoned the morning of the appointment to ensure that the horse was still for sale;tried the horse, said she wanted him only to find the seller had taken a deposit on him the day before.
One of the other more scary ones was taking one of my novicey liveries to see a very unsuitable horse which was nowhere near as described who she nearly insisted on getting on (still makes my blood run cold now). Fortunately the horse was scatty and wouldnt let her near. Completely innaccurately described:eek:.
I sell the odd youngster now and then and am as honest as possible about their good and bad bits. The unexpected stunt pulled by a horse is one thing, blatant untruths is another.

she replied saying her horse was not a novice ride and doesnt think i would be suitable

I'm not sure that this is necessarily wasting your time - just telling you that she didn't want to sell her horse to you. Big difference.

Just becasue an animal is for sale, doesn't mean to say that the seller has to sell to anyone.

i've gone to view horses and have been messed around as well, i get told that the horse is still for sale so i go to view it and turns out it's being loaded on the lorry as i pull in, also had people up the price when i've seen the horse and ridden it, you know how you talk to the horse and say oh you are a good boy/girl etc etc well i did that and the owner said that the price has been upped, they assumed i'd pay more for it once i'd seen it.

i'm also advertising my little pony and i'm being way too honest in his ads but i need to be sure that the right person has him!

haha, I did a 300 mile round trip to see a 14.2, lightweight coloured cob, 8yo, broken late but fine to walk trot canter and small jumps, green, needed a little schooling, but would make a good rc horse.

Arrived to see a scruffy coloured cob standing in a field up to it's knees in mud. Completely ferile, unbroken and virtually uncatchable. (i nearly bought it :o)

Sweet little thing, I hope it found a good home.
