Have you ever taken a break from horses?

I had a 3 year break whilst I was at college and having fun doing studenty stuff.
When I thought about it I missed them, so I completely shut myself off from horses, didn't watch them on TV, didn't read about them, didn't go near them.

I eventually got bored so did my BHS exams, then promptly left horses again, and travelled a bit.

I had a 3 (ish) year break for personal reasons and found it quite easy to cope without. I started getting the itch again shortly before I came back to horses but lacked the confidence to try, as I thought I'd lost it all. My OH encouraged me to come back (and he is not horsey at all) and it was surprisingly easy to get back into the swing of things. I was lucky that whilst I took a break I didn't have to sell my mare, as my dad was very much into looking after the horses (we had 2 as a family at that time, I've since seemed to have inherited his boy but he still helps with the looking after etc. as much as he likes). That probably helped the getting back into horses, but I think it would have been still fairly easy if I hadn't been that fortunate.

I had to sell my horse 8 years ago for financial reasons. OH was starting a new business and we wouldn't have been able to manage with one wage and a horse.

I shared for a bit then got married and stopped riding a friends horse whilst pregnant. Didn't ride for a couple of years and although busy with small child and work I really really really missed it. I just threw myself into mummy and baby clubs and stuff. Not really me though!!!

I started sharing a friends horse 2 years ago and when my grandma passed away last year she left me some money to buy a horse with and I got Lottie.

I survived by riding other people's horses. I did have schoolmaster lessons too which was great. There is nothing like having your own but it is ok b
