Have you ever tried your horse's feed?

I have these for K and admit I thought they smelled lovely! All oaty and sweet. The reality was quite different as they were really salty!

Eww! The rest I won't bother with, I can't imagine Alfa A tastes that good!

I'm afraid I've tried everything I feed my horses - except the wormers. I don't try cat or dog food nowadays. In my youth I was responsible for a few naughty tricks during a week long "party" (invasion of friend's very large house whilst their parents had gone away) when we ran out of cash for food. These included the "nibbles" left in bowls round the house which were dried cat, dog and rat food and the meatballs and beans, "chilli" and beef stew which were all made using tinned cat and dog food. No one was ill - well apart from the hangovers and other alcohol-induced troubles

I have a terrible reputation at the yard where I did my NVQs for trying all the feed samples - and for being able to provide a live specimen of all the poisonous plants listed!

Funny you should ask that, but only yesterday I tried some of our local mill's cool cubes. They were ok, nothing too special. Warm bran with salt is nice, sugar beet is OK but gets in your teeth!!!

I haven't tasted Tobago's feed myself, but when I was chatting with one of the grooms at his yard recently, she said "...and you know we're changing Tobago's feed to this new non-heating mix - so of course we tasted it for him to make sure it tasted nice, and actually it's not bad - a bit like sort of a minty grass flavour..."

She said this in a completely matter-of-fact tone, just casually in passing, as though it were a totally normal thing to do. I had to laugh, and tell her that Tobago is not really an Emperor who has to have his food tasted for him!

But WOW, talk about attention to detail and dedication, eh?!! I love this yard - they are even more obsessed with Tobago's happiness and well-being than his besotted owner!!
