....Gone to a show to do a showing class totally unprepared, and if so, how much of an arse did you make of yourself?!

(p.s, to limit the size of arse that I make myself, please clarify for me, do you sit when the inside front leg is going back when you are doing rising trot?)

You sit when the outside front leg is coming towards you

I couldnt work out if that was a serious question!

I am not 'into' showing as on the two occasions I have done it, I have made an utter arse of myself and felt like crying!! That said, neither of my horses have been 'showy'....

A friend is going to show my pony for fun, but I shall only contribute towards the cleaning!!

Good luck

Thanks for that!! I thought it was that way round but someone else just told me otherwise....hence me checking on here because otherwise i would have been doing it wrong for years!!

Me and Spooks do endurance so dont tend to go anywhere near a showring, but there is a local show about 1/2 mile from my field tomorrow, only found out a few days ago and thought 'what the hell' until i asked spooks to 'do posh stuff' - now i am convinced i am gonna make an arse of myself as i have never been in a showring before!!

I am fairly certain that spooks will charge around like a giraffe, we will get the wrong diagonal or lead at every possible occasion - Gonna get lost and wander aimlessly at individual show stage - may have to not canter at that for fear of ending up in the next county!..... oh yeah and there is still the minor issue of the fact that his back is still ever so slightly dyed pink (and he is pure white as you can see from siggie) from his Mattes saddlecloth as the cream that they sent me to remove the colour didn't work - Am hoping that it wont be very noticable with his saddle and a little white numnuh on!

It has faded a bit from this - but still looks a bit pink!! (the photo was after 3 washes as soon as the saddle cloth was removed) (Oh yeah, and Mattes were very helpful and replaced the pad for one with natural coloured sheepskin!)

I could dye him totally pink and flog him to you for the bargain price of £100,000.00 if you want yourself the worlds first pink pony?!?!?

Oooh good luck. I am sure you'll be fine. I'm going to my first show and I am convinced I'll make an arse of myself too. Let us know how you get on - take your camera!
p.s - love your pink pony - surely that gets bonus points in a showing class?

OMG an actual pink pony! I want one!

I attempted ridden showing last year having never even watched anyone doing it before, and I'm sure i fluffed it up entirely, but I thought it was hilarious. I went to a show a few weeks ago and entered Best Rider, despite the fact that I cannot ride, and I was absolutely convinced I was going to get removed from the ring for riding so badly...but it wasn't as bad as I thought and I enjoyed it.

I bet you'll have loads of fun, good luck

Ive always made an arse of myself in show classes

Ive been told by lots of people my mare would make a lovely show horse so I entered a local riding horse class. I didnt bother preparing for it and after my girls usual double clear sj we went into the showing ring. she wouldnt stand still, leaped around the ring throwing her head around, everyone had to stay out of our way we were so awful

we came last lol. I asked the judge why and she said it was a riding horse class and she was the last horse she would have wanted to ride ha ha she did say though that she would have won if she had been produced properly!

After that encouraging comment I attempted another riding horse class. Again lazy me couldnt be bothered to bath her (shes grey and it was cold) so a tail wash and some plaits later we ventured into the ring complete with jumping saddle and a sparkly brow band. This time we were pulled in 3rd (was amazed!!!!) anyhow after an awful show where i took the 'lets get it over with as quickly as possible' method we were dropped down the line to 6th (still amazed). However after both times I have decided to retire from the show ring as im obviously not cut out for it (horse possibly but not me!) and will return to 'attempting' to do dressage and succeeding in showjumping
