Since my 'should I ride alone' thread was rather hijacked by man-talk, it got me thinking about a subject that's been on my mind a lot recently...

Have you ever given up men for horses? (Or women, whichever!)
It's the situation I'm in right now :P
I thought I needed a bloke to be happy, but after cheat upon cheat, lying and even some abuse, I was utterly fed up!
Luckily Ned was there to give me cuddles :)

I heard several ladies at the yard saying "I don't need no man to be happy! All my men have 4 legs!" Or something to that effect :P Totally true in my case!

Not offence to men out there :)

well not as such but i split up with someone as they were intruding on my time i spent with the horses telling me every day not to ride so i could go see him etc it annoyed me so it ended :o

im quite happy with my ponies and the life i currently lead :)

I haven't got time for a man - 3 horses and a collie, so who would want one? Godawfulcreatures they are (men, not my beasts!)... Nice to look at occasionally, or fondle their arms apparently, but LTR? Wayyy too much time spent away from my horseys :D

Someone did that to me too! He buttered me up with "Oh babe, we'll do something fun, we'll go to the movies, or just cuddle in bed" So I agreed...not an hour later, his yobbish 'mates' were over and they were smoking weed!! YUK! He didn't last long... (The horse isn't mind btw, so it's no big deal if I do skip visits :P)

Hehe! Oh, yes :D Very nice to look at sometimes! But stick on a 'CineAsia' movie and that's fine for me :P

haha i own 2 so i would get told to go down feed and come home - i dont spend in excess of £600 a month on something i feed and go :o and also i had already said no matter what my horses will always come before him :o people these days!

Hehe, I have a bit of a 'thing' for the Asian lads! I'm watching a movie with a rather lovely Japanese man, shame he doesn't make it to the end :\ the cute ones never do!

People look at me funny when I answer the question 'why don't you have a man' with 'i don't need one, I've got the big guy' - its true but non horsey heeps don't get it :) I split up with a guy just before I got him and honestly don't know how I'd fit a new one in!

I get asked the same! I have one bloke talking to me who INSISTS all women must have a man to be happy ¬¬ Several girls have said the same to me!! I have a lovely 4 legged man, thank you! And if I catch other girls riding him, I don't count it as cheating :P

I know, I get the feeling people think I'm just saying that I've never been happier and actually what I really want is a boyfriend... doesn't worry me tho cos I'm too busy off being happy at the stables! :)

Iv been happily married for four years and he knew from the beginning that my horse would always be my top Priority. Can cause some arguments but I just let him moan lol x

I'm 21 and have had 2 long term relationships over the last 7 years. I got my horse half way through the first relationship (having only had fortnightly lessons until that point) it took him awhile & caused a few arguments when he suddenly became my second priority but he got used to it.

My latest boyfriend has had it from the start so it doesn't bother him too much, we both like having our own lives & the only times he moans are when I set early alarms on a Saturday morning & he tries to make me stay in bed. I'm often tempted but bailey always wins! He sometimes comes out with me on hacks (on his bike) and I've persuaded him to get on & have a ride, both things that in 2 years I never managed to get my ex to do.

Ive got pretty good at splitting my time between the horses, men & mates. Although as he is shared between my mum, sister & myself it does make things a lot easier if occasionally I do need to skip a visit.

Put it this way, every time I get a new horse my oh gets kicked out because he gets so jelous of them.
He was kicked out last week over my youngester, hopefully this time is for good though.

Horses always win with me I'm afraid

He should know that now though we have been going for 10years.

Stupid men!

I have been in a relationship for 22 years now. About 5 years in ,he said its me or the pony , i told him where the suitcase was !!
After a long discussion it has never come up again. Now both kids ride and we have moved to a home with land and have 5 ponies. He does get irritated about the money and time but has accepted that this is the way it is. He does groan every time we get another animal as he knows he is even further down the list:D

My bf of a year hates my horses, to the point he wasnt there for me when i had a accident and ended up in hospital for a week, put it this way he was this close to me saying ****** off and he apologized, next time, well there wont be a next time because the next time he has a bitch about the horses i will be walking out the door and not turning back!!

My OH would never make me choose, but just as I wouldn't give up horses for him, I wouldn't give up my OH for horses, I love him far too much.
Luckily he is horsey, he loves hunting, and that is it. All mucking out, tack cleaning and the rest of the sha bang is mostly mine, because whenever he does it, he does it wrong! He does polish my boots on hunting days for me though :)

I'm lucky I have a very understanding BF, been together for just over 3 years but from the start it was always very clear that horses come first. We live together and with his job being long unsociable hours and mine we still barely get to see each other nowadays but we both cope, I'm going away for 6 months soon and that is going to be hard but we will manage.

I would never choose a partner over my horses! and my partner knows that luckily.

i love my relationship. He has his hobbies and I have mine and we then just meet up at the end of the day. Sometimes we will spend the day together but neither of us moan about eachother going off as we have something we can do.

Oh yes!! Its love me love my horse and other animals, to me I have had them alot longer than the person in question and never make me choose because they will always loose, perhaps that is why I am still on my own lol, if they like you they like the animals, take the animals away and they have not got the real you, so its a now brainer simples :)
