Yeah....

Kind of a post tinged with sadness as I'm going to have to lose my pony but hey.

At the stables today,we [my mother and I[I'm a teen]]] were putting my horse out in her field ;I was walking towards the field with the horse,my mother was behind pushing a wheelbarrow so I could poo-pick at the same time.

Suddenly the proprietor's Newfoundland puppy[...well...5 month old anyway] came hurtling up ,filthy and soaking from leaping into a pond...My mother laughed and pushed it away, then started to play with it again, rolling the barrow towards the pup which leapt back then started playing again.

Let me get this straight- The pup knew she playing and joined in;the puppy was wagging her tail, displaying all signs of general amusement etc,no fear.Seen that puppy scared and it wasnt.

So...
Later on,we came back to the main block, chatted with a fellow livery about her Royal London experiences, went to leave suddenly BAM! Yard manager woman is alll like nasty to my mothe, having a go that...what? she was playing with a puppy?!,just really cruel.

so yeah we're leaving. Shame as the place is gorgeous, but you know, its not her place, we're paying her ,that wasnt her dog ,and recently the atmosphere and way shes treated us,bitching, not talking to us, generally dreadful. Other liveries are fairly bitchy too.

I just could not believe she would talk to another adult like that ,especially not one whos paying her!

What would you all do? Have any of you experienced the like before?

They are unreal, I took my ponies to one yard, was told I could access a vast local hacking area, this was untrue.
She insisted on picking up my horses, I had to wait three weeks!
I had my own little yard shared with her staff, I used to sweep for 20 mins every a.m. and every p.m.] was regularly told off for not keeping it clean [all stuff from rest of yard and her staff ended up in it], which she must have known.
Heard her snapping at a child who wanted shavings, which were apparently only available on Sunday 2.00 to 4.00p.m.. it was 2.00 p.m.
Guttering not repaired after four months [very large roof area discharging over my stable], she went daft when I quietly decided to repair it myself, ended up doing so after another six weeks, it took me five minutes]
Got really annoyed when I snapped at her because lighting not repaired after three months [several reminders, but she refused to allow me to fix it myself]
Huge dog [hers] cr*pping every where including rest room, not cleaned up. Got uptight when anyone complained.
I drive past regularly, new horses all the time, so high turnover, but still raking it in, as no maintenance unless emergency.
Was there a year, still waiting for any sort of invoice. Well that is not true I got one for three horses for six months when I had only been there three months. My foal was unborn at start date of her invoice!
Hardly ever there, never does any work, at all.

I'm sure there are good YM's out there somewhere but the majority(95%) of the one's I've encountered round yards whilst repairing or fitting on site seem to have an ego problem or think they are God. I've always said I'd never get a horse of my own until I had my own place to keep it, too many yard politics out there for my liking.

Most ym ive came across couldnt pick a horse out in a line up of animals.
Ive always been DIY so the fact they knew f all didnt really bother me, as they werent dealing with my horses, the problems arose when they decided they would start telling me what i would feed, how id prepare feed, the negotiated turnout before moving to the yard turned into no turn out in the rain ..... Newsflash mate its Scotland, it rains nearly every day ! Then to come down one day and catch the idiot spreading the dung heap over the field WTF we break sweat lifting the dung and that idiot doesnt see a problem in spreading it, while the horses were still in the fields, cue my exit.
Its unfortunate many of these ym are only able to set up because they have the land, its a pity they dont learn a bit about keeping horses before starting the business, that said both yards im referring to churn people regularly.
On one of the yards a friend is on the ym has a longish list of rules, but it runs like clockwork and everyone knows what is expected of them and the ym provides what is negotiated with her, she is professionally qualified, so imo therin lies the difference.
I do firmly believe that livery yards should be legislated and if you are providing livery for horses even on a DIY basis, you should be able to demonstrate learning and knowledge of care for the said animal

All the time!!

The majority seem to be idle, ***** stirring, clicky b*tches! Always seem to end up taking sides with the yard bullies. Always screwing the novice horse owners out of money being 'supportive' and 'helpful'. Very quick to complain about something you've done (warranted or not) but never take responsibility for anything they/their staff have done wrong or managing situations with other liveries.

I'm usually a DIYer and over the last few years I've heard 'You're a DIYer, you'll have to sort it out yourself' over and over. Yes, I may be a DIYer but I pay you for livery which means, in my absence, you have a duty of care to my horse.

I have my own yard and find myself quite nice really :p Apart from my lack of keeping enough chocolate biscuits on the yard
But yes i have been on a couple of really awful yards due to the yard owners and have just heard of an incident at a local yard which involved proper physical assault!
I would move, there are yards with nice YO's :D

I agree Jacks mum, ive got my own place now and love it, its a bit more expensive than being on a yard, but not to have to put up with the bitching and mess its worth it for me, ive got friends who are just along the road who jave horses and we help each other out if neccessary

I've been screamed at by one yard owner for enquiring elsewhere about the cost of livery, I've had a different yard manager stealing my feed (obvioulsy her, long story) and then me getting the flack for that but my current yard is brilliant, we generally get left to ourselves but if the horse's need something it's done. They're not brilliant at repairs as the owner is also a farrier (helpful) but very busy plus they've only recently taken over the yard so are still getting everything sorted.

Yes, passed her AI 2 years ago so obviously professional & experienced, so daily rule changes, being spoken to like a moron, got told off for leaving my trailer in the yard at 6.30pm after everyone had gone home & I was leaving again by 7.30am before other liveries arrived, apparently it would cause chaos & be in the way & I should have asked, err no it wasn't in the way ,yes I could have asked but it was pitch black & you & everyone else had gone home & it would be moved before they turned up again in the morning needing to park. List of this crap is endless & when I look back I am amazed I stayed as long as I did. Oh yes, forgot that we then had to have her to do our horses if we couldn't, no brilliant freelance lady any more, so £5 to lead one pony in from the field, doesn't notice if a horse is lame & lost a shoe, brilliant. So pleased I am away from there now & on a lovely yard with very professional lady running it, owned by genuine & friendly people.

Met some nutters in my time, but with one exception following an emergency for a few days never been on a yard with one. Either always had cheap farm diy where they don't interfere, on private yards or at pro yards I've worked on. To be fair though, met nice ones too, & a proportionally equal amount of rude, incompetent liveries.
I'm a bit confused op as to why a rude ym means you'll now lose your pony? Even if you're leaving you can find another yard.

Because shes technically on a full loan to me,with the actual proprietor being her owner ... i could find meself another yard and take her,but not many close by, and I need to move on from her anyway...It's a good excuse :D

Gonna spend winter looking for a new horse that I can share with my sis and a new yard and start over in about Feb. x
