Is(are) your horse(s) perfect for you or have you had to compromise due to cost etc?

Just being nosey really!

What is your perfect horse and have you managed to find it? If so, where/how did you find it? Did you get something completely different from what you thought you wanted and it has turned out to be even better?

Yip got my perfect horse, i knew she was something special when I first sat on her but boy did we have some ups and downs and I was beginning to think I was wrong. Three years later and I have finally learnt to ride her properly and she is now outperforming my expectations!
I think every horse I have had has taught me something but she really does take the cake, love her to bits and feel very privileged to own her.

Amy is not my perfect horse - however, for many, many reasons would not be without her.

However, the big girl that I had on loan last year, and am currently getting fit prior to her moving on to her competition home, is my perfect horse.

Aside from the fact that she is probably far too big (17hh) she is my ideal. If I win the lottery at the weekend she won't be going anywhere..........

Yup!

My boy is absolutly perfect for me aside from the fact i could do with him being a teeeeeeeny bit taller.

I went through many none perfect ones first though; partly due to a cost issue and partly due to my family wanting me to show jump

I took up dressage a few years ago with an aging show jumper who wasn't interested one bit and a few months later the most perfect horse for me came up for sale. He had been owned and brought on by my trainer as a baby to PSG level and then oddly, gone back to a SJing and then an eventing home.

I never in a million years thought id be able to have him after asking his price... not to mention i still had an old horse on livery and we couldn't afford two at that point.

Long story short, OH pulled lots of strings with various people and bought me Jack

I dont ride to his level yet... but he's brought me from novice to about advanced very quickly. He knows everything but is nevertheless very quirky. He was trained correctly and the result is that if you dont ask him correctly, he wont oblige. That can be incredibly frustrating at times but equally I know its making me a much better rider.

Personality wise he's perfect also

I have had my perfect horse, and have spent 10 years looking for his replacement which is wrong really. But if I could clone Cercs I would, no question about it.

Honey would probably have been very close to perfect if she hadn't developed navicular at 6 years old. We will now never know how far she would have gone but would have probably happily popped round foxhunters and probably novice evented.
But she is back competing and she is loving it, just wish i had done things differently when she was a 3-4 year old.

I did have, he was called bailey - he was PTS last year after a bout of colic - he was a Welsh D, nuts but we had a bond like no other, when I lost him my confidence went too.

I now have two Tb's, Darcy I adore and would never part with but we wind each other up far too often, he is technically my OH's and definately has more of a bond with him, even though he doesnt ride him...

However, a few months ago Pinky came into our lives and as much as I tried denying it for a while she is as close to perfect as I could hope for, apart from the fact she is a she...! I know she wont be Bailey but she's perfect for me on a whole differnt level....

Sort of. I don't think my perfect horse exists, and certainly not in my price bracket

. However, Megan is the best horse I've had, she's turned into a very good RC level all rounder, and (after 2 years of hard work and training) I'm able to have a lot of fun with her. Which, at the end of the day is why I have a horse
grin.gif

Who knows, one day she might even be my GP dressage horse

Yeah I think I have! Old chap Zip is perfect on the ground and easy to do- but was never the perfect eventer as hated dressage and now has navicular!

Jools however, is what I set out to TRY and find- didnt think I would get it tho! i wanted one who was GOOD at all 3 disciplines but didnt need to be outstanding in any of them!

Well I think hes more than good, was in top 10 dressage and double clears at all events last year- not aiming to do more than PN as I'm a wimp but he would easily!

NB- got Broadway IRF saturday so views may change by then!!

lizzie-liz - I'm in exactly the same position - thought I had my perfect horse, but he developed navicular too. Why do you say you wish you had done things differently?

My boy was started at 3 for a few weeks, turned away till he was 4 then mainly hacked and did light schooling till he was 5 when he started proper work.

Sometimes, even if you do your best for them, they still develop problems. I'm sure it wasn't your fault!

I think Im as close as I will ever get to my perfect horse. Total safety, honesty, so genuine, handsome, talented and best of all only 6 so hopefully many many years together yet.

We got her as a 3 1/2 year old, i was 13 and it was our first horse. I regret never turning her away for a couple of months as i believe now that she did too much too young. Not in the competing sense but was just hacked and schooled too much.
However she did develop strangles a couple of months before going lame and spent 2 months in box rest and was a real banger.

I think so, we have an amazing bond after only 5 months, and although Flash can be a little sod, he has absolutely transformed m,y life, given me back my confidence and has progressed so much in the time I've had him. I absolutley adore him and would never be without him

My mare wasn't exactly what I was looking for. She is a big heavy hunter and didn't look as big in her photo. When I arrived to view her and went into the stable, my first thought was "I'm not getting on that"!, but I'd travelled a fair distance, so decided to go with the flow. As I mounted I thought there was no way I'd buy her, but as soon as I began to ride I knew she was 'my babe'. My ideal horse would also not have be as spooky as she can be, but I love her so much. She is a 'lovely person'. We've been together 3 years this month and she has taught me that my ideal horse is her.

I have found mine, Never thought I would but I did, Im so lucky really to have him adn I wont be letting him go anywhere.

Sirrius. There just seemed to be a special bond with him almost instantly, I didnt even get that feeling with Septre when she was born.

Actually if Jethro was 14.2 he would be my perfect horse! Funny, I've had mares all my life yet the two colts are the ones I've bonded most strongly and quickly with. Though I do love my grumpy mares to bits (most of the time anyway hehe).

Almost, like Amymay, she is pretty damn close, we have an amazing bond and i trust her totally, just wish she was a few years older

Were you never tempted to bring him to the UK with you?

Broke my heart leaving him

But I moved to London and the livery was so ridiculously expensive I thought it was better to leave him there. I loaned him to one of my pupils and she did really well with him
laugh.gif
He is now with an elderly woman being a geriatric hack
grin.gif

S is my perfect horse but I have invested a lot of money in to him and me. Lessons etc.

He has taught me far more than any other horse. He has taken me to my biggest highs and my greatest lows.

I bred him myself and I will move heaven and earth for him.

Ebi is my perfect horse. Unfortunately I dont think ill ever compete her again but saying that this time last year I thought id never ride her again and that has recently just changed! Weve got a special bond between us that noone can break. Whenever I go away I miss her just as much as she misses me! She sulks if I go away any longer than 2 days and it takes her ages to forgive me (so I dont do it anymore!

)

She has taught me everything. Weve done it all together and learned with each other. I bought her as a just broken 3 yo and trained her myself (not saying I didnt get help from trainers) I hope that Willow will follow in her footsteps and be another Ebi.
I had a reiki reading done of Ebi and it was so perfect - everything she said about me was true and all she really wants to do is look after me rather than me looking after her.

Dont know if Chantin is going to be my next pefect horse. She has the looks, elegance and quality of paces that Ebi lacks but I dont know if shes going to be a bit too moody for my liking - only time will tell I supose

G is my perfect horse in looks etc, but whether he will be in what we achieve, I dont know. I hope so, as I adore him, but only time will tell....

Flo is my perfect horse, definitely, I wouldn't change anything about her, shes just perfect. It does worry me as shes 24 now
frown.gif
but she better have another 10 years in her. Lottie is pretty damn close to perfect as well though.

I think I've been extremely lucky though as Teazle was my perect pony, I always use to say I wish I could change her into a 16.2 when I moved on to horses, lol.

Bramble is my perfect driving pony, and Dollar was my perfect project.

So I've been very lucky indeed.

I haven't found my perfect horse... ones too fast and mad... the other too slow and dare I say it... a teensy bit boring. I want one in the middle
blush.gif
On the other hand both horses are perfect for me as they have taught and are still teaching me so much, about riding and about myself. The tb is way to similar in personality to me... a perfect match
smirk.gif
Thats why we disagree so much I think, we're both as moody as each other...
blush.gif
and temperamental... and unpredictable and we don't listen to anyone if they don't ask politely... Where as the other mare is lovely she displays my lazy side
smile.gif

I had a fantatic horse on loan a few years ago but didn't buy him because of his age. I thought he was my perfect horse although he was very grumpy. I always said I wanted a younger version but never thought I'd find one.

The horse I have now is so like him, but much better natured. We suit each other really well - we can both be stroppy and stamp our feet but always sort ourselves out in the end. I recon he's pretty close to my perfect horse although slightly better brakes would be good. Oh and I wanted a chestnut and he's dark brown!
