I've seen what I think is my ideal horse - but it's in Germany! I don't have time to go over there and look at the horse myself so would you buy unseen?

If you've done this, any advice?

How much did it cost to transport the horse?

I would, if Id seen plenty of video of it working, and it ticked all the boxes. Bear in mind though, that they tend to be very professionally produced out there, and their lifestyle is quite different - so they can get a bit silly when they get over here and experience a more relaxed way of life.

Can't help with transport costs, as I picked mine up myself.

Yes, I have imported horses, and yes, I have bought unseen, I never bought with pure intention of it being a keeper, though, so brave enough to buy on the basis of some photos, breeding and a vet certificate :)
Few years ago I was paying at around £600 per horse to have them delivered from Poland. Nowadays I would expect to pay roughly the same from Germany.

Yes ive imported twice from spain, second one is on his way at present and should be home on monday. Wouldnt buy unseen though, depending on how much your spending its a big investment and you can get over to germany even quicker and cheaper than spain anyway so you could easily do it in a couple of days and get half an idea if the horse is suitable.
Cost wise am paying £700+vat to bring my boy over, a few years ago it was £500+vat so cant imagine it being as much as that for you.

Yes 2 horses
One stallion KWPN from Holland bought at auction used Parkers shared load about £300 door to door
Second large Irish grey from Galway bought from dealer still have both and would do it again. Not sure who dealer arranged transport cost £250 door to door

I bought mine from Germany 9 years ago. It cost 500 and he was delivered in perfect condition on the most amazing box I have ever seen!! As Auslander says though our lifestyle was very different to the one he was used to and he was a total nutter for about 6 months!!

I imported my tb ex racer from France, saved him from the meat man! I did go and try him and several others and would have brought them all home if I had the money.
He came over on a shared load with Ken Gamble and it cost £500 plus VAT. It was this time last year. I did also look at something in the South of France and was quoted £1000 to bring it back from there so it is worth checking exactly where the main transporters tend to go alot as it is cheaper if you are on route so to speak.
Good luck!

This is really helping me make the choice to go for it.

I've asked for more photos and videos and for a vet to see the youngster and report back to me.

I was half expecting to it would cost thousands to import a horse as it cost me £150 to transport a horse 70miles - I now feel ripped off for that!

I haven't but would definitely consider it. Actually found one recently that I absolutely adore, but I can't really justify getting another at the moment :(

Was that travelling your horse on his own? If so thats the reason, international transporters usually bring upto 12 horses over at any one time thus saving you some money, you can get transporters that do it on an individual basis but that will obvoisuly cost a fair bit more!
