have you lied to sell a horse?

No, I'm one of these people that had to point out everything when I sold my mare, I'd had her 6 years and I loved her so much I'd have almost given her away to the right home. I actually refused to sell her to the first lady that wanted her as I knew that she'd be overhorsed!!
I sold her to a lovely home and we still are in touch after nearly 2 years, the new owner knew all about her vet history, her quirks and her competition successes and failures. That's the only way I'd ever sell again too. I've asked for first refusal but I know she is in a home for life.

I was very honest about my last horse when I sold him. He had a lot of behavioural issues and the person who bought him was made aware of each and every one of them. I was conned when I bought him but I could never do that to someone else. I would not want anyone to be hurt by him because they didn't realise what he was capable of doing i.e. exploding until he got you off, stopping dead in canter so that you sailed onwards etc. I still wonder if I should have had him destroyed but the lady who took him on said that she felt that she could cope. I hope she could because she's never been back in touch and I daren't get in touch with her in case she's sold him on again.

No, the one pony I sold meant too much to me, to do that to HIM. It was of the utmost importance to me that he went to a good home. I felt I'd let him down by having to sell him in the first place (he was too "hot" for my daughter). I took him on and we absolutely adored each other and had a lovely time together but he was wasted with me and deserved a rider who would compete him. Finally the right child for him came along with a family who were prepared to put the time and money into him (the instructor loved him too). I have no regrets, other than I wonder how he's getting on on an almost daily basis. (I do get updates from the new owners) He is not the easiest of ponies and if I hadn't got it "right" he could so easily end up being labelled a problem pony.

No, absolutely not. In fact I usually make them sound worse than they are

Yes I have lied - but not to sell, to avoid selling. Buyers can give a very false idea of their abilities - especially proud parents of wannabe stars! I had to lie and say I had already had an offer that morning.

As for false advertising what about flaming ESTATE AGENTS. They are the worst!

I've never lied to sell a horse.

I did however, sell my last horse to someone who I knew would struggle to ride him. The buyer knew and admired the horse. I told her what a pain he could be and that he was not a novice ride but she was determined to buy him and I was determined to sell him. That was less than 6 months ago and I hear she's selling him on to someone a bit more suitable.
