My cousin's partner was Mne James Wright KIA 05/08/2011, I've just decided on a show name for my recently acquired pony - "Wrighty's Green Beret." He will have an appropriate blingy green browband!!

One of mine was named,by his breeder, after the vet that saved his life when he was a foal.He fell over and knocked himself out in his first day,he was always rather precocious and tried to get to his feet too quickly.

I bought an unbroken 4 yr old NF to break and bring on for my son to ride when he was older (only 6 months old when I bought her) She was FAR more trouble than all my big warmbloods - stroppy, mareish, awkward and bolshy - so I called her Gillie - after my mother in law!!

Pj was named after his racing syndicates close friend Peter Joy who died aged 46.

It makes me feel very priviledged to have a hand in a legacy.

I welled up when I had the email off his previous owner

My daughter named my filly,we had her from weened,as she was into hannah montana she thought of the name miley,i liked it so it stuck.

I named my horse after a foal that lived in a childhood friends field, subconsciously however!

When my horse was in foal I knew all along it was a bay filly and so named hereafter the original foals mother, also a bay!

I named my filly Daisy after my nan, when my mare was in foal I was certain she would have a colt so did not plan on girlie names. So the night she was born was a shock her full name is Rainbow Daisy, Rainbow is the fillies grand dams name. So both names are taken from our grandmothers :D

Indiana is after Indiana Jones

Obi is short for Oberon.

My best friend named her horse after my mum! It's very sweet I think!

I've just bought a new horse a named him Costello, as my first child hood horse was Abbott and I'd always said if I get to name my own horse it would be a reference to him. Abbott and Costello was a comedian double act, so a number of years later I've still kept the promise to Abbott. :)

I bought my horse over the phone no viewing and never actully asked his name,

when he arrived and the owner told me his name.. Henry.. the look on my husbands face was a picture.. its the name of a guy the hubby accused me of having an affaire with PMSL..

horse is still called henry.. I refraine from EVER saying im going to ride "henry":D

Not me personally but I had a bright chestnut gelding called Scottie, when I bought him from his breeder, he told me he'd named him Scottie as when he came out of the mare he had the same Ginger colour hair as his best friend who was called Scott (nickname Scottie)

We named our feral 2 year old sec d "Merlin", which was the name of the litter mate of my beloved lurcher - my lurcher had a happy long life, sadly his brother didn't due to lack of handling when young, which my current horsey merlin looked like going the same way...mind you in welsh, his name is myrddin wyllt (wild merlin) and apparently legend has it the original myrddin spent 40 days and 40 nights wild in the forest, which rang a few bells when we found our myrddin in the forest after having been run out of his field by a dominant herd...at that point I wished we'd called him something more straightforward...;)

When I got my Tb, Mainpower, his stable name was Baby... I was telling OH about him, and describing his soppy loving nature and he said I should call him after him as they were so alike. Err, don't think so... but co-incidentally, when I got his passport, I found out that he'd been bred by the Ellis stud, and my OH's surname is Ellis, so that became his name! :)

Yes, Oaktree Pippi Longstockings after the character in the book the girl with the long socks and pic tails. the name pip was only temporary untill we could find a more unique name for a horse with 4 white stockings - we never found another name and here we are two years later . . .

and Oaktree Super Nova - the song Supernova, we were listening to it in the car and decided it had 'presence' and it stuck, but his stable name Cody, came out of the blue!!

wait til I tell my little girl you have a horse named after her favourite book character! Am re-reading her Pippi for the 15 millionth time right now...! And of course, the original Pippi had a horse who lived on her porch..

I called one of my tbx boys Dooney after one of the fallers in this year's grand nash.

He came into my possession after a friend rescued him. I was really struggling to name him. Nothing suited him.

And then I watched the Grand National. I know damn well horses die there every year. However, this year with the helicopter cam the sight of the fallers was much more graphic.

One was called Dooney's Gate, and the name just stuck with me. It suits him perfectly.

His passport name is Dooney Tunes. :D

We named the new boy Jasper after OH's best friend from uni (many years ago!) because it's similar to his birth name and he's only a baby so we didn't want to confuse him too much :)

When I bought my very handsome boy his owner had already called Brad, as in Pitt, so felt that suited him perfectly!! Although I have to say the horse is keeping his looks better than the person he's named after!
