just wondering if you have ridden your horse bareback before?
sounds stupid but i rode my boy bareback for the first time tonight but hes only rising 7 and is 16.2hh .... and he does like to buck

(pics in PG) but i have ridden loads of ponies bareback before but never a horse! its a huge difference to me though!

most of them, but not the t.b.s with the withers like a razorblade... for obvious reasons! not the big wb who used to be able to buck for england either. i do it occasionally to check my balance, symmetry, position etc.
i had one years ago that i backed for the first few times bareback, it just seemed the obvious thing to do and made it very very easy.
it's a long time since i cantered and jumped bareback though, i'm not so convinced that i'm made of rubber any more. when i was a kid we had bareback jumping classes at almost every show, now that was good for our riding...!
 
Never- Not tried riding bareback since I had 2 weeks in hospital falling off bareback. The thought of it makes me shudder.
 
Yep, went out for a hack yesterday evening and had a couple of canters in the woods, it was lovely. I ride bareback quite a lot in the summer, schooling and hacking. Must look like a real pikey as I ride bareback in jeans as they don't slip as much as my jods, have no noseband and ride a coloured, hairy gypsy cob! All I need is a dag on a bit of baling twine, lol

yes always ride pickle back up to the field bareback in a headcollar, we always go for a nice trot/canter. I also ride up all the RS horses (well the non retired ones) and usually have at least a trot hehe.

To be fair though I own a very confortable 17.1hh sofa! hehe. I regulary also ride RS horses up leading another cantering

I love riding bareback! My big IDx has the most amazingly comfy paces! A dressage judge would say they were dull or flat, but I love it! And he doesn't have a lot of withers either. He's the first horse I can do trot bareback on without falling off/being in a lot of pain! Very fun

Yes but not recently! When I was younger we rode, jumped,cantered bareback all the time. Then when I had my narrow little arab there was no way I'd ride her bareback! When I backed indie I got on the first few times bareback, and I plan to (when shes better and back in work) get on her a few times bareback this summer to see if I can still stay on.
 
I love riding bareback. I quite often hack up to the fields bareback - the other day there was a gremlin in the hedge and she did 180 in the road, sat like glue its great - not so much fun when doing ride and lead and one of them does that though. I've never jumped bareback though not quite sure I could do that one!
 
I went to South Africa for 3 weeks in february and went on some beach rides, one time we took the saddles off and went to swim with them, mine preferred to move sideways than in a straight line and I managed to fall off in the sea. Least it wasnt as cold as the North Sea!
 
Rara_2008 I've had a similar experience. I fell off bareback (off a coloured cob, funnily enough) when I was about 14 and fractured my pevis. Took me years to get my confidence back enough to sit on a horse without a saddle and before that I used to gallop up from the field bb whilst leading a horse either side. My fall wasn't at my riding school (where I used to do that) but was riding somebody's horse in a field.
I trust my horse now and he's a broad, low withered cob, which makes a big difference!

i jumped her bare back..listen to this..i jumped a 1m15 course on her (at home with friends and family) bare back, with no shoes on and just a hat and strappy top!!

everyone was laughing lol, funny thing was that we went clear aswell! she was the best jumper ever!
but i wouldnt jump my TB bareback, even tho im not a boy it would still kill (down below', haha, because she's so narrow!!

I haven't but my OH rides our 17hh bareback, and normally on a Monday a gang go out bareback for a hack from the yard. Its quite hilly on the farm and they have a trot and canter. Oh and he rides in Dually halter and rope. Madness.
 
Have ridden the bay mare in my sig bareback but she's nice and wide! Not the TB for obvious reasons. Would like to ride my little borrowed mare bareback cos she's really comfy! Used to ride a lot of riding school horses and ponies bareback and jump them too
 
I personally dont ride bareback a lot, however a friend of mine almost refuses to ride with a saddle, she says it gives you a much better feeling of the horse, and the movement it is making! pony wise it is much easyer to vault on, but if you have a mounting block handy, its useful! highest i can vault onto is 15.22 *sigh*

Untill this season we didn't have any saddles for our driving horses but their great to ride bareback. Oh so comfey and their all heavy crosses and if your feeling really lazy they do everything off the voice. I used to regulary "ride" down to the field on our oldest with a headcoller and one rope until my propperty manager caught us jogging down the path which prompted me to vault from 17hh shire as he did an abrut transition to walk (because he spotted her too and is a cleaver ol' boy) in one of the coolest manovers i've done on a horse. Now he gets a bridle.... and I wear a hat... honest...

I've always ridden my horses/ponies bareback - even H - I get on her in the field and ride her up through the woods rather than trail through the mud!

Last month we were trying to decide whether or not H's saddle was affecting her ability to lift through the shoulders so we whipped her saddle off and continued the lesson without one - she was just as forward and through as though she was wearing a saddle

yes, i learnt to ride bareback initially as i had no saddle so no choice

i used to ride bareback regularly when i was younger and stayed on like glue no matter what
in recent times i have tried it and find it quite hard now, i can do it, but its not as easy as it used to be, i just tend to ride in a saddle though

Used to catch our ponies and ride (quiet often gallop) them back to the stable (soo not the pony club way to do things! hehe) Also used to enter bareback showjumping classes as a kid - that was ace, my pony was very fast though and was a good job he didn't stop as he had quite prominent withers!

Ride my horse bareback back to his field in the summer cos he's so well behaved. My pony's a bit difficult though as he is so round and has such a shiny coat he's very slippery - he has no withers so do no more than an amble on him!
 
Um, I used to ride bareback all the time and was a teenager when I broke Domi in, and my mother's horse and I rode them bareback on the basis that they were changing shape and therefore buying a saddle was pointless. I actually cant believe that now! I was a much better rider then in my defence but I would worry more about their backs now that Im older and wiser.

I stopped riding Domi bareback (which I still did occasionally if we were only going out for a quick hack) when I became pregnant and I dont ride bareback now on him. I do ride mum's horse bareback when I get the chance though, he is a dream and so comfortable:)

I loved riding bare back on my older horse. He is really quiet, regulary jumped bare back and did some XC fences bare back. I hacked him every where without a saddle and he didn't need a bridle just head collar. He is the most amazing horse.

Im planning to have a little walk on trot on the TB soon bare back, he is way too fizzy to try anything else on! Very good for balance though!
 
Only once, and cue merlin taking off at speed and doing a hairpin turn at the stinging nettles at the top of the field........ did I stay on...























Did I heck!!!! Straight onto the floor and re hurt the injury that was just healing after falling off of a pony on a sponsored ride

Used to when I was younger but a few months ago I hopped on my 3/4 tb bareback and hopped straight off again! Not the comfiest...!
