Not sure if this has been posted, had a search on the forum couldn't find anything.

It's horrific and what luck that the jockey was thrown clear. The commentator said that the horse was known for this and I have looked on the internet to see if there's any more info on the horse as I wondered what has happened to it? It doesn't look too comfortable when it's walked away, not surprising. Wondered if it was still racing or if anyone has tried to treat it?? any searches on it's name just seem to take you back to the video.

Good on the horse I say, pity it didn't land on the jockey!

He didn't look too poorly walking off, he was probably a bit sore from getting caught in the loose lunge rein that the idiot who was leading it had!!!

Very. Horse breaks its back in a race, but the video shows its dying throes - its up on its hind legs, throwing itself around. It has actually made me feel quite sick to watch it

I don't know, but it raced until 6 years old, then died at 9, so it must've done something in those 3 yrs

Would be interesting to find out wouldn't it?

I'd go with the brain problems too. I used to know an eventer who was really talented and was doing BE Novice level but sometimes it was like a switch flipped in his brain and he became really dangerous to ride. Had to be PTS in the end because he was too unpredictable and dangerous for anyone. Vet thought he had brain problems but im not sure what the diagnosis was if there was one.

Not a very nice video, but must this become an issue about racing? Injuries like that are awful, but happen in other sports too.

I havent turned it into an issue about racing - I have simply followed a link given by the OP, and commented on what I have found. I wasnt slagging off the sport - I would be a hypocrite if I did. But surely there is nothing wrong with admitting that you find a video or image particularly disturbing?

Is it an American thing being anti-horse racing? [ in regard to some of the comments on these videos] Because I don't know ANYONE who is against it, but on youtube and other world sites [as in not .co.uk] there is more of a debate.

I dont see a problem with racing to be honest - if they were badly treated then surely they wouldn't be so muscular, good-looking and gleaming?

I didn't post it to cause controversy I was just generally interested in what happened to the horse and what, I suppose, may have caused this, as you have said maybe it was a brain problem and maybe that was why it didn't last longer than 9. I have a friend who's horse did similar and she ended up in intensive care for 6 weeks so it was lucky the jockey didn't get squashed!

BTW Everyone please don't get yourselves into an argument over it!!!!

Nothing wrong with it at all MizElz, it certainly disturbed me.

It's just not a very good press for the sport really

Sorry I guess I'm just getting over-defensive, because someone had already posted that they thought the jockey should've been injured

Back flipping without a hesitation (as opposed to an unbalanced rearer) is generally caused by brain problems, either tumour or aneurism.

[/ QUOTE ]
My mare (RIP Misty) did exactly that, and we had a post mortem done, revealing anneurism. Id had her 13 days, and it happened on Friday 13th. She was a great horse, but this video made my tummy turn for the similarity.

Interesting as it really looks like the horse had a major problem.

Nikki- have googled and this incident took place in January 2006 when the horse was 8.(His last completed race was feb 04) Which means the horse didnt run for nearly 2 years. This incident must have been at his last race I guess.I wonder if he had had health problems in those 2 years. Dont really know enough about the racing world but if he died as a 9yr old someone may have been trying to get him right again.

Quite intriguing!

I would be rather interested to find out what he was diagnosed with (if anything).

The second video made me want to throw up tbh, I am not easily put off but I found that video quite disturbing

OMG, I have never seen anything like this!
Poor horse, RIP it must have had something seriously wrong with it to cause that strange reaction.
Really lucky that it didn't land right on top of the jockey but it looked as though it just missed him by inches.
Brave man (or foolish, depending on your point of view...but I guess it's his job to take risks like that)

haven't watched the video - don't need that keeping me awake at night but I knew a gelding who had bizarre episodes like this, freaking out without warning for no apparent reason. It was PTS and and autopsy showed a brain tumor maybe this horse was suffering with something similar? Really sad because it was a lovely horse but because it was so unpredictable it really wasn't safe.

More shocked about some of the comments in the earlier posts. Why on earth it would be the jockeys fault I do not know, he had only just got on and he was lucky to walk away from that. The poor handler, no matter how experienced you are would be ready for that as he was so quick and out of the blue. I had a youngster who had an accident in a trailer and fractured his skull. The vets tried to heal him but brain had been damaged and he was just plain dangerous in the end.

Goodness! Must have been something seriously amiss with that horse. Poor (but lucky) jockey, looks like he escaped with his life by a few inches.

My goodness me! It looks to me as though they were expecting it to do something, hence the lunge line, what I don't think they were expecting was for it to completely flip, that has to be the freakiest thing ever.

The earlier comment about the jockey was uncalled for, it certainly wasn't the jockeys fault.

Does anyone think the jockey looked like Tom Scudamore?

I agree. I just thought it was strange that it was raced a few times till Feb 04. Then not raced for 2 years. Then it did this in Jan 06 and never raced again. Died a year later.

I didnt watch the other video.

It seemed to freak when he started to put his feet in the stirrups?
We had an advert filmed here two years ago and they had a stunt mule who wouldn't let anyone get on her, but she just stood up, no flipping, that shows a serious lack of concern for itself.
