Have you turned your horses out 24/7 yet?

yep mine is out 24/7 even with a full clip. he is naked in the day and just a medium weight on at night. he still sweats up a bit in that! will be stopping his feed this weekend to as he is getting to be a right fatty especially for a TB! lol
 
Yep, a week and a half now :) fully clipped, although summer coat almost through and only in a light weight. Glad of the break from stable to be honest! Hope she can stay out for the whole summer this year, got too porky last year and had to come back in at night, but starting from a better weight this year so upping the exercise and keeping fingers crossed.
 
My four have been out since xmas eve, due to a house move, they have loved not having to wade through knee deep mud to get to the barn, which was a wind tunnel and happy with ad lib hay, they have never looked better coming out of winter
 
I wish, but its yard policy that they all go out together at night on 1st May - Can't blooming wait!

Looking after some ponies that have been out 24/7 for a few weeks now

Ours don't go out 24.7

We do however change to nights out when it stays around 12 c and higher normally around june time, May if it warms sooner, I wont have them out all day and night, its one or the other.
 
been out 24/7 mostly all year, can't remember the last time I had to muck out more than 2 days in a row! finally leaving her out naked now. Thought she might be cold as still half clip left, but she is fine. Glad she can get some sun on her coat :)

I'm the same although there are periods when they'll go out in early and late summer. I like to get them off the grass and out of the flies during the heat of the day then ride and turn out for the night.
 
Out 24/7 since Monday. Unrugged TB, though he was never clipped and is still very hairy. Felt a bit mean last night but as he's losing his coat in clumps don't want him itchy. Also putting a rug on at 6/7 when he's still quite warm doesn't seem fair.

Hopefully if his leg holds he'll be out until either the floods return or the farmer decides he wants them in at night to give the field a rest (November time usually).

We're very lucky in that normally there is 4 on about 30-40 acres (though the 'hay field' is closed off in the summer).
 
For 2 nights, yes, out in a rain sheet only. Hard woman that I am. Both he and I were going box crazy! Did a little happy dance when word came through from YO that they could stay out.

No idea if it will work for others, but on the first night I brought him in at the usual time, rode him, fed him then put him back out. He was a bit confused but there were no tantrums as he had already gone through his usual routine.
 
It is the earliest I have turned out 24/7 ever. I do have the three mud monsters who were out 24/7 for all but the wettest 8 weeks of the winter, when I brought them in during the day and they were still out in the all weather at night. But I turned the whole lot of them out 24/7 4 weeks ago. They had to come back in for a few days when we got all that rain, but they have been back out for the past two weeks again. Two are fully clipped wearing MWs at night, naked during the day. The rest are in LWs at night and naked during the day.
 
M (who's 19) has been out for about a month - fully clipped at end of January, he's in a sheet at night (more to keep the little ratbag clean than anything else!) and nothing in the day: he's happy as Larry and looking really well.
 
Not a chance. Its still cold enough for frost in the mornings up here and with a good doer cob I trying to restrict his grass intake. I put the fence up to make paddocks last night so at least this will limit him a bit.
 
Mine had a night out last night but to be honest it was because i had a very early start and figured it would be a lot quicker to chuck feeds into the field and change rugs this morning than turning them out.
There was a frost though when i went to feed them.
Im keeping them in firstly to give my fields bit more of a break as they suffered badly this winter but also i want to keep on top of weight issues this summer a bit better, Im half considering not giving 24/7 turnout at all tbh.
 
Mine went out 24/7 a week ago. There was a frost this morning... but they were rugged appropriately and they have plenty of grass and shelter :)
 
Yes - when the clocks went forward. They are still on their winter grazing so getting some hay.
My lad is a toughie so was unrugged when it was mild but has been in a 100g for the last few frosty nights. All unrugged during the day.
We are fencing this weekend and they will move to their summer grazing, letting the winter fields grow for hay.
 
Ours have been out for about a mnth now - they were having haylage and hard feed as still on winter grazing, but moved today onto the summer paddocks with more grass.

They are wearing rain sheets on the colder nights as they are growing out full clips.
 
Not yet, only moved into our house on the 7th feb and i'm battling managing a laminitic oldie and her yearling welsh companion! Strip grazing down to a manageable length and bringing in at night to keep on the safe side! Mind you, theyre only outside the door so its no trouble! Sheep arriving during next few days to help me with the spare 3 acres thats looking dark green!
