As title, sorry its not a exciting competition report for you all, but with snow frozen menage, roads etc we haven't been up too much!
Had one problem after another with horses, and vet bills in the last few weeks so my wedding plans are on the cut back! (wedding is July!)
My coming 4 year old had nasty abscess under her jaw, so shes hopefully sorted now and is back eating and feeling better.
My chestnut boy had a snotty/slightly bloody nose, so vet gave him antibiotics to try and shift it. Hes had several sinus problems over the last 3 years, hole into sinus to flush twice, and bone flap op to remove puss in the sinus. So normally if hes a little snotty on the 'bad' side i don't worry, as it clears up after a few days. However this was the 'good' side, so i knew it wasn't going to be so simple.
So after a week and no improvement, i took him into the vets Friday..
Scoped to check guttural pouch (sp?) was OK, and it was. Xrays next, and showed something was indeed going on in the sinus. They made the hole in his head, (now will have two matching scars!) and scoped via that hole. Showed cysts in the sinus.
Hes not insured for sinus trouble, and i had to folk out for the first bone flap op on his right hand side, however we took him home after 3 days to do the aftercare ourselves.
So faced with two options, one to flush and see what happens (although vet said it wouldn't work) or operate.. no choice then really, so i left him at the vets and drove home crying!!
This is how i left him; Hole into sinus, and catheter in place..
Operation went well, and they removed cysts and also the lining of the sinus. Vet said if hes ok in the morning, she would be happy for me to take him home the next day!
So on sat afternoon i collected him, and settled him back at home, looking like this;
Vets back Friday to check him, and remove catheter and stitches out Monday hopefully.
Hope i've not put anyone off there lunch!!
