Can that work? I'm going back to Uni as a PGCE student as of September and I'm trying to save up for it but I'm still going to struggle. Selling my horse isn't an option as she's 16 and I want to keep her for life unless forced to by circumstances I can't control. I don't really want to put her on full loan as I'd miss her, miss being able to de-stress at yard and wouldn't like not having control over what happens to her.
I have recently got a new sharer who has her 2 days a week so would obviously wait for a while for her to settle in more and speak to her first. My current sharer has her 2 days midweek (her choice) and mostly schools her. So if I did get another sharer for 2 days a week I'd look for someone who wants to hack.

Has anyone got any experience of this?

I don't see any reason why it can't work, provided there is no conflict of interest, and you're fair about the amounts both are contributing etc.

It can work. It happened to me, I shared a horse 2 days and she also had another sharer for 2 days.

If I had been told it wouldn't have been a problem, but I only found out because the (flaky) owner double booked the horse for one of my days and I got there to find I couldn't ride because the other sharer was!

If you manage not to do something like this, it works well, the horse is fitter generally and you get a larger contribution towards her. You just have to be aware that with 3 different styles of rider the horse might pick up bad habits, not a problem if you are willing to sort it :)

I am thinking of doing this moving forward, it would suit me very well - if people have set says and both pay fairly - I don't see why it wouldn't work really well.

Could you not have a fullish loaner and have a deal where they sort the horse and pay most for it but you can ride everynow and again etc?? It could that way stay on your yard and you only have to trust one person, your horse will have a better relationship with one person etc.

I do think two sharers would work fine. But if one wanted to go to a show/fun ride etc it could cause trouble???

I think this would cause more trouble than its worth, as OP states she wants to maintain control, and I know that if I was paying for the majority of the horses' keep and doing most of the work I would not be happy with the owner interfering and wanting to ride whenever it suited them.

I agree with the above, a loaner should really have a degree of say really, if the buck stops with them for all upkeep - so I too wouldn't be happy with an owner breathing down my neck (not saying thats what you'll do OP, but that's what it would feel like)

Thanks all. I personally don't know anyone who's done it so was useful feedback.

I don't really want one person having a more full loan as I want her still to be mine so I can feel like I can see her whenever I like and she's happy at the yard she's at and so am I. Also having one person for say 4 days I'd be likely to get less money than having two different people as my current sharer pays £18 for 2 days. There are local dressage comps which could be the only problem if they both wanted to do them. My sharer at the moment hasn't expressed much interest, but it is early days.

My only concern would be her having 3 different people doing her, although I'm sure she's be fine as I've had other sharers in the past that have come and gone for various reasons.

Having 2 sharers would mean if one stopped sharing her for whatever reason I'd not be left in the lurch time and money wise so think I'll leave it a while for current sharer to settle in then speak to her about it.

Hmmmmm i think it can work, you just have to do it in the right way.

A lady at our yard had 2 sharers was was charging them £100 a month for 2days each, and alot of the time they couldn't ride the horse

BUT the sharers thought they were the only sharers, so everything was *top secret*

Could work out horribly wrong, or perfect!

Hope you find a lovely sharer :D

I wouldn't charge them that much, also I'd obviously make it equal or it wouldn't be fair. Is anyone a sharer, how would you feel if the owner said they were thinking of getting a 2nd sharer? At the moment everything is going well with my current sharer and I wouldn't like to upset her.

A couple of people at my yard have 2 sharers they sharers have set days and there both fine with that, we have yard shows a the sharers tend to do 1 class each.
Personally i think its your horse and if you want to do that its fine, money wise i think its up to you. And money wise i think its your dicretion. I know 1 lady who charges more cos her sharer has sat and sun and the other has 2 weekdays so pays slightly less.
I think it would be worth asking your first sharer if they want more days first though.

My share Horse, has another sharer. There's never been any problems between us as we both have our set days and stick to it. I was the first sharer so was worrying a bit when owenr told me she was looking for another sharer, but no need to worry as for the last year it has never been an issue. Horse doesn't seem to mind either, I think she likes having 3 people spoling her.

Good luck x

I have 2 sharers for my older gelding, i still do some of the work but they exercise him etc.
Its works well, they are both lovely and we all comunicate so we dont get any problems.

I think that is so wrong; its so disrespectful and downright deceitful. Sounds like they were basically paying for her horse for her....
