I’ve spent some time looking for a bridle for the little palomino and everything just looks so chunky.

We started by borrowing the pony’s very plain, traditional snaffle bridle at the moment and the nose-band is too loose but the brow band comes up short. A cob sized bridle drowns her, and the “small horse” that we tried is just big-horse-that-shrunk so it came up long.

The closest to a good shape is a micklem small horse but it looks quite heavy, and then I looked at a Fairfax and it’s far too heavy but the leather was just so much nicer than the micklem so I ended up with neither.

I’m now looking at having one made. Any experiences/ advice/ ideas?

I don’t mind doing something mildly different from an aesthetic perspective, as she’s clearly an arab type, but I don’t like glitz or anything that looks colourful, very ‘modern’ or plasticy - hence I’ve struggled with bridles marketed for Arabs. I also want it to work on simple snaffle-bridle directional pressure, without too much leverage involved so western style arab bridles aren’t really ticking that box.

Ours is a mix of cob and pony parts from english bridles IIRC (was a few years ago!) It has a relatively narrow padded noseband (all in brown). Will see if I have a photo.

I think we’d have to mix it up too. Thanks for the link, they do look lighter than some I’ve looked at.

Do your brown pieces match well colour-wise? I would be looking for brown.

Welsh rather than Arab but native pony bridles did a mix and match bridle for my welsh C- Full browband, cob headpiece with XL throatlash, pony cheeks and noseband. The comfetic bridles might be worth a look if you want something more modern and don’t mind a little more leather.

I've got a Kieffer cob size with original browband on CM, a Kieffer cob size with longer browband on the grey and the gelding has two bridles (one bitless). He has a pony size Stubben CTD with a little S hackamore and a longer browband plus a Jeffries cob size with a longer browband.
