Having a happy horse PTS?

When i first had the old girl i was horrified at the "bute it up and ride it" attitude of some of the folks on my yard and I refused to do this. I worked her for about 8 years - without medication, but the last 5 she has had various amounts of either bute or now danillon (she had gastric ulcers caused by the bute). She is still hacked out once a week in the summer, and is free schooled a couple of times a week. I always make sure the ground is "good" she wears knee boots and we only walk (well she try's to canter on the spot, gallop and hoon about), and she is on one danillon per day.

When she is "unrideable" she will be retired until the glint in her eye has gone, and will get 1 or 2 danillon per day as and when she needs it.

But i am a lucky so and so and have 2 others to ride, and a fantastic oh who lets me spend the family fortune on a hobby - plus the old girl is his "girlfriend".

It is a difficult decision, and tbh no one can make this easier for you.. good luck
