Okay so I have always been a sharer and now I have an opportunity to full loan this horse
The owner of the horse doesn't want him anymore and the person who full loans him doesn't have the time anymore so she's giving him up. When the girl who full loans him got him she also got a sharer to help. Now it looks like if I full loan this horse I will also automatically get a sharer. My parents are very keen on the idea as they just see it as a cheaper option for them. This horse has one £1000s of prize money in eventing and still has the capability to do so and that's what I plan on doing with him. So he would have a training schedule and jumping certain days and hacking and schooling certain days. If I have a sharer that potentially would muck up his routine. I personally wouldn't want a sharer competing him also as him being 16 it would be difficult I think but I may be wrong.

Looks like I don't have a choice to keep the sharer or not and I know they can be a lot of help!!
What's your opinion and what would you do if you were me ?
I really appreciate your responses and help

Thanks
Emily

I think you need to find out the terms that the sharer is currently on, it may be that she just hacks several times a week which could fit in with what you want to do, or it may be that she wants more involvement with the schooling and jumping which will impact on how much you can do, once you know how the arrangement is set up then you will be better placed to decide to continue or not, I certainly think if you are taking over full responsibility then you should have full control over who else rides him.

You should have a new contract for the sharer as the situation has changed, you really need one yourself for the loan as well, you may decide that you would prefer to get a new sharer to help with costs but your parents do need to know that sharers may move and the full financial responsibility is still there.

I would talk to the prospective sharer to see what they want to do with him - if you want to event, he'll need to be fairly fit, and you may find that having a sharer who wants to hack etc. really helps you out. Also, sharer already knows the horse, so could give you useful advice.

As long as you both agree on what you're doing, I don't see why it wouldn't work out. Even if you do loan horse, then decide sharer isn't for you for some reason, then you can choose to end the share.

How come don't you have a choice in whether or not to have a sharer? I think that's a bit unfair really.

I wouldn't write them off immediately , they could be a very good rider and an asset to you in terms of training etc. Like be positive said, she may just hack, which will keep fitness up when maybe you can't ride everyday. I imagine she's not useless if the old loaner kept her on.
