Having a Youngster Vetted....

[ QUOTE ]
Whats included in a 2* and could you still request a blood test?

A description of vetting procedures is available on line. Just google it. But basically your vet will do whatever you ask him to do - so yes, blood tests are no problems. Nor are x-rays etc.

Just had a 2 yr old colt vetted. Did all the normal 2 stage stuff then vet watched him move loose, we loose schooled him for 10 minutes then did heart rate and breathing after this.

Pretty difficult to have a 5* on an unbroken horse.

Not at all! I always encourage buyers of my youngsters - 2 upwards - to have a full 5 stage - and our pure-bred fillies HAVE to be fully vetted as part of grading. As long as a decent surface is available for lunging they can be worked sufficiently.

The MAIN thing you're looking for at that age is wind or heart problems - particularly murmurs that only show up on exercise.

Yes you can technically - as said above you can lunge, but I never start lunging anything until it is 4 due to their still being fairly rapid growth at this time, and turning circles at young ages can cause problems later on, so athough it is possible, i would not want to do it. Hope this makes sense!
