Not for me but a friend needs a horse put to sleep and they want to go down the knacker man route (want to get some money from it) I would have no idea where one was around our way, we live in Ely, Cambs. Would anybody know where the closest one would be to us or where i could find out.

Google up abattoirs. JoG a hunt will charge you about £200 to shoot and remove a horse, not pay you for the carcass.

Call Potters they do a nationwide collection service, costs are very reasonable and they are very discreet in picking up the horse. After having the hassle of taking horses to the hunt I can safely say that unless PTS in emergency potters the best way to go, a lot less hassle and some cash back.

Holts, at Stanstead Abbotts, nr Ware... but I don't know that they'd pay for the carcass, I thought they'd charge for the service. I've always taken mine to the hunt kennels where the service is exemplary, luckily never had one pts in a crisis situation.

What tossers, so no horse lovers them then?

The OP has asked a straightforward question. I don't know the person's circumtances - but they might not be able to afford to have the horse put down by the vet/hunt/local knackerman and then the carcass removed. The cost is high and to many people Potters or similar are a viable option.

Thurlow don't it is a free service

To non-members? Lucky you in that area. It cost me nearly £200 three years ago to have the hunt shoot mine and take it away. The abattoir and the other two hunts were even more expensive than that.
