Was wondering if anyone could offer any advice, having a problem selling my pony.
Background: Buddy is a 5 year old, NF x coloured 13.2h. He is rather deep and chunky so takes up lot of leg - I look fine on him as a 5'6 adult.

I have recently put him up for sale, he is a genuine lovely chap and fab to do in every way on the ground - tiny kids can handle him no probs. Ridden always in a snaffle - for me and other adults it seems he is responsive, starting to work in a correct soft outline, rides off the seat and can be stopped with reins at the buckle just from ones seat. He has never stopped at a jump - ive XC schooled him and jumped everything first time including water etc. He is a very genuine pony and has BAGS of potential.

He has had kids ride him, but generally on hacks out and not really schooling. However I have tried to mimic a childs riding and he has been fine. When people have been to try him the following has happened:
I get on - show him off he goes great. Their instructer/older sister/mum gets on he goes fab as well. All smiles. Kid gets on - legs barely go past saddle flaps. They flap flap flap their little legs - he moves off but VERY slowly and rather confused. He then very quickly establishes that small child doesnt have any legs and cant ask him on and will barely break into a trot. The problem is that whilst he is 13.2 he is so deep and chunky that he takes up your legs like a 14.2 probs would and 10-11 year olds look TINY on him.

Having just had this happen for the 3rd time I cant bear to have anyone else come out. I dont know any kids that could ride him for me really, and I think he would suit a 13-14 year old much better as their legs are long enough to give the correct aids to him. I guess in effect I have schooled him rather too well to go off the correct aids and not just "kick to go, pull to stop" like some kids seem to do.
Im not sure whether to readvertise him aimed more at older kids - not sure if kids that age want a 13.2 though really? Or try reschooling him, but abit loathed to school him that kick means go and pull means stop. A friend said someone will come along that wants their child to leanr to ride correctly and he will help that it just takes time. I think his age also puts people off so am also considering leaving it another year till hes 6.

Any advice from anyone?!!

having same problem selling my 14.2 HH he is a saint but seem to get pull and kick alongs also time wasters, when they have been ridden correctly thats a good thing and that will mean you get the correct home, all your hard work will not be wasted the right person will come along and it may take weeks or will happen tomorrow. Just hang out and perhaps put on add suitable for small adult and teenager, this may give them a clue (dont count on it lol) how wide he is. My daughter rides a 13.2 HH and she is 25 !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck as we both need it

Hi He sounds a lovely geniune pony and would give somebody lots of pleasure maybe you could advertise him as a family pony i know they are usually bigger but as he could carry somebody a bit heavier he would be OK, have you considered the RDA as his temperament would be ideal best of luck
I home you find him a great home:)

he sounds just what we are looking for we want a 13.2 for my 8 year old son and 4 year old for lead rein and learn to ride on but need one loan view to buy next year i own a friesian but she to big for them to ride want a 12.2 to 13.2 as my daughter can then keep it exercised she 16
how much do you want

Have you tried advertising him at a riding school? I'd have thought that there would be a few suitable kids/ teenagers looking that go to one.

Thanks for your replies, I have advertised him in lots of places tack shops, internet etc - will pop an advert in local riding school.
I think I am going to readvertise him aimed at a slightly older market say young teens who will have longer legs and more able to give him the correct aids. He will really be a star for someone.
Here he is, as you can see he takes up my leg very well indeed. The people who have come have been genuine but I think he definately needs a slightly taller rider than the ones who have been. He is so responsive to me and goes off the lightest aid.

Oh hes lovely! Its the kind of thing my daughter and I are looking for on loan, im 5'1" 35, lol, and shes 12. I would definately advertise as family mount, 13.2 isnt to small for a chunky one like him. I would advertise him as able to carry teen and/or small adult though. Have you thought about scouring the wanted ads? Theres even a facebook group called 'adults on ponies' or something I would put him on there! Good luck he looks a nice pony.
