I recently posted on here asking advice about having my dog pts.I have made the appointment for tonight and I am dreading what to expect never having had to have an animal pts before. My dog is riddled with arthritis and as of last night has been unable to get out of his bed and is thoroughly miserable so I know its the right decision for him.I just wish I had the guts to do it sooner.

Sending you hugs,
this is the hardest part of animal ownership, but is the greatest act of love to your boy.
I've seen a few of my own off to the bridge & the hardest part is holding back the tears 'til they've gone.

God bless you & your boy xxxx

Huge hugs to you. It is a very brave decision you have made. I had 2 cats and 1 dog all pts within 18 months of each other. All were old and had lived good lives. I was with 1 cat and with the dog and I can honestly say it was really peaceful for them. It will all be over for your dog in a matter of seconds. xxx

I feel for u hunni, i lost my dog a month ago-I hope this helps:

The Last Battle
If it should be that I grow frail and weak
and pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must be done,
For this--the last battle--can't be won.

You will be sad I understand,
Don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.

We have had so many happy years,
What is to come can hold no fears
You'd not want me to suffer, so.
When the time comes, please let me go.

Take me to where to my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me til the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time you will agree
it is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.

Don't grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close--we two--these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

(((((((HUGS))))))))

No doubt about it, it's the saddest decision you'll ever make but thankfully it's so peaceful and kind that you will feel better about it when it's done. If you get this before you go tonight my advice is stay with him, talk to him normally and try and assist the vet to hold his leg if they allow you to rather than get a nurse in or use a bandage, that way he will be more relaxed and you'll be the last person to hold him. Truly my heart goes out to you.

We had our springer pts last Christmas Eve for the same reasons - she just looked thoroughly miserable. It's very hard and we all cried buckets while she went (very hard to watch two 15 yr old boys crying). However very glad we were with her, we stroked her head, kept talking to her and she really knew nothing about it as she was so weak. Very sad for you x

My sympathy goes out to you. We had our Billy Boxer pts last Monday. It was awful, but we knew we were doing the right thing for him.

He had an injection and he literally just lay down and 'went to sleep' it was very peaceful.

Big hugs to you and your family
