I really envy you HHOers who go up to your stables every night, as early as possible and RIDE every night, or know when your going to ride (ie 5 times a week) and do it.
I just really want to be able to be like this, be able to go up to Pippa and ride her each night, insetad of leaving it to the last minute and nipping up to bring her in the stable for the night...Im lazy

So, Does anyone have any tips?
I know both Pippa and I will benefit from riding each night, so really want to be able to go for it..
Teacakes and a cuppa for getting this far

Thankyou x

I'm very like that in winter, and sometimes you've got so much to do you just can't gear yourself up for riding

. This might not be the advice you're after, but I pushed myself to ride and the more I did it the more I looked forward to it. I always try to do things we enjoy, like jumping, or hacking out, and have a goal, like sometimes I plan to jump a small course of jumps by the end of my ride, or to get past the goats on a hack

.

Sometimes now I still can't be bothered but as she's old I know I have to ride regularly if she's not to get stiff, so that motivates me a bit, it's for her wellbeing really. Hope you feel better about it soon.

I am the same tbh but the more my horse improves the more i want to ride like my TB has just started to work in an outline and now i am having lessons on him as i have something to work at, and don't feel pressurised to ride every day its not necessary

It's a shame you don't have a school nearby

. Is there somewhere you can hack to, maybe a large-ish field where you could do some schooling and maybe work on some dressage moves. I find if I have a goal then as soon as my horse starts to get it I get really excited about riding and seeing how good she's getting. At the moment we're working on hacking out without napping and she's doing so well I just want to do it more and more, whereas before I didn't hack out on my own and I was losing motivation a bit too.

Maybe you could look for some new hacking routes, go exploring or something like that, something to get you excited about riding? Sorry I can't be more help

I find riding with a friend helps. If you arranged to meet someone then you have to ride so as not to let them down. Is there anyone you could ride with or would go out with you on a bike?
You could always advertise in a local shop/paper for a hacking companion, it worked for me once when I had a young horse that needed some company on a hack.

Is there anyone you can arrange to ride with? I find that helps because then if i don't feel like it, i don't like to let them down.

Or the other thing i do if feeling lazy is just plan to do 10 mins, then usually once i'm on board my energy comes back and i ll end up riding for an hour. I manage to kid myself every time and sadly enough it seems to work

My mare is a reallly good doer and needs to be ridden pretty much every day so this helps motivate me aswell

I'm the same, plan for a short ride out, not doing much, then end up being out for ages, OH hates it!

Sadly we're in a very hilly area, so biking isnt really an option :P
Sister's saddle was stolen recently, and dads horse needs BOA boots to arrive so can be ridden out, so acnt ride with them at the moment, but hopefully will soon

But thankyou all for your help and ideas, I'll have a go at the 'kidding yourself' one

Thanks
Keep the ideas coming!

NOOOO! You live in one of the best places in the country for biking!! Before I had my horse I spent every weekend somewhere in the high peak mountain biking!

Have you got transport to get out and about?

Knowing that I'm preparing D for something I really want to do really motivates be when it's cold, I'm tired and she's already been ridden four times in the week. Most times D is ridden 6 days a week but I'm reaping the benefits as she has never been fitter or healthier.

whenever i get the feeling of not riding, especially when i know it isnt going to be a pleasureable experience i just remind myself it is FREE!!
how many things in life give you the pleasure, adrenaline rush and satisfaction of watching a horse's talent shine thru

My horse has been of for 4mths with soft tissue damage in his hooves, i would do anything to be riding and competing him again, he may never come right.

Make the most of the opportunity when it is there, i have serious withdrawel symptoms without him!

Tell you what, don't bother and I'll come ride for you

There are plenty of horseless folk out there would give an arm and a leg to be able to ride 5 days a week.

Not lecturing you really but seriously, perhaps you need to "count your blessings" when you feel like this. Riding is a hobby and is supposed to be fun and enjoyable not a chore. Remind yourself why you have her, or give me a call and I'll be over to kidnap her, I love chestnut mares too!!
