having the worst day known to man!

Everything seems to be okay and thanks for the vibes :) I've just given all the unborns a good old prod and all are wriggling around, so seems all is well again. It was quite worrying seeing her having full blown contractions so I did go in last night to check her cervix and all seemed okay. What would have been a setback would have been if she'd had a caslick as I would have had to cut it open to be able to get my arm in to check. And I wouldn't have needed all that extra nonsense when I had an already upset mare to deal with.

I don't understand this at all, why would they want to do a Caslick's? Sorry if I've not been following properly but is there any reason - she's sucking, does she have a bad angle down there? I bet it's a bloody man vet!!

Shame is, this vet practice is actually bloody good, i just think there have been a few too many hicups ;). She has a slightly sunken anus and they said it might be beneficial to stop the risk of infection

Being a good vet is not the same as being a good *repro* vet though. Why do you think I use so many different vets? ;) And actually even in the equine repro world there are good repro vets and there are *excellent, top notch* repro vets. I use them all for different mares, horses and situations. I know which vet is best at what ... and then on top of all those repro vets I use, I also have my lovely regular farm vet who is incredibly competent at most things but definitely not repro work.

Delicia ovulated :)
Just spoken with the repo vet. She's still recommending the caslicks as when dees ulcers play up and she gets squitty it will protect her pregnancy from the fecal matter.... Hmm. Dee had a little bit of fluid in her so they have flushed her and will give her some oxytocin to shift it.

She's coming home tomorrow. :)

Glad she has ovulated just have to cross everything for the scans to show a foetus :) We have mares who are occasionally squitty and none have ever had pregnancy problems with it and some do have the same sort of rectal conformation as yours sounds to have. her ulcers should not be as big a problem if she is more relaxed in herself and I would imagine living out so as she will not be loose with this being a first foal I would stay away from the caslicks for now and see how she goes without it

Her ulcers havent been an issue since we moved yards....shes eating more fibre and out more then she is in and it seems to really suit her. :)

I'm meeteting w/ the vet tomorrow to discuss our options...praying for a foal now!
