daisy is trying to foil my plan of putting her in a starvation paddock by eating the hawthorn hedge instead. Will this do her any harm?
 
Hope not - Chex keeps eating the hawthorn trees in his field. I think its good for them, but not sure what for
confused.gif
 
Don't worry, hawthorn is actually good for them....I believe it helps the digestion, and blood pressure...
The new shoots are particularly tasty...so they tend to only eat it in the Spring.
My Dad (a biologist) used to feed these shoots to me, too....they're very nice, taste like nutty lettuce!
And I've lived a few years without too much ill effect....

My old cob goes through the same pattern each spring.

First eat the blackberry shoots, then eat the dandelion shoots, then eat the hawthorn and then take out as much cow parsley as you can!!

horses are clever devils and will take what they need to help them recoup after the winter.
