Hay and Straw - amounts you use

Hi

How many small bales of hay and straw do you get through in the middle of winter. Assuming your horses are grazed all day and you like a nice thick bed?

I had slightly bigger bales of straw, than your average and i used around 2 i think. So i would imagine 3 normal size. I do have a massive stable though!!

Hay i feed a heck of alot as my pony doesn't get much feed (just graze on and balancer) so i was using 4 but i was putting hay out in her paddock for the daytime as well.

God i hate winter! Its so expensive!

We've got two 15.2's & a 12.2
we use a bale of hay between them a day. we have big stables & mahoosive beds. about 1 1/2 - 2 bales between them a day. As for the initial bed set-up, maybe 5 or 6 bales each??

One 15hh Welshie in at night only - I dont use straw but get through 10 bales hay a month for night use...so third of a small bale per night. No hay during the day as he is out at grass.
