Out of interest what do you expect to pay per ton for hay and straw this year?

We have just had 12 tons hay delivered at 150 euros/ton (£130) we expect prices to hit around 200euros/ton. The Govt in France are capping the price of straw as the French Equestrian Federation have made representation. There has been concern that merchants were buying up the hay and straw crop.

We have widespread drought for the second year running. Our fields are completely burned off it is like August at the end of May.
 
seems quite cheap to me. Theres plenty of threads on here stating people are paying £5 and more per hay bale. I make my own hay but buy in straw for bedding. I am expecting it to be around £3 for a pick up small bale this winter.
 
My YO sells hay for £3 per bale but local suppliers were selling for as high as £6 per bale last winter. I'm hoping to get a large round bale this year and am expecting to pay £25-£30.

Straw bales were £19 for a massive bale or £3ish for a small bale.
 
i pay £45 for a huge bale of hay (lasts weeeeeks) (this was £30 a bale before the shortage last year) and share a huge bale of straw with one other person that's £15 each, last a few weeks. It used to be £7 a week for unlimited straw but they are trying out this new method of sharing bales, and it could cost as little as £4 a week in winter if we look after it.
 
My paddocks are awful, 4 out of my 6 acres are burnt already. We have had no decent rain for months.

Last year I paid 45 euros per large heston bale (370kg?), this year I have managed to buy 100 small bales @ 2€25 That will keep me going for a wee while. I check leboncoin from time to time.
 
Do you all know what your bales weigh? The farmer who delivered to us gave us a weigh bridge ticket.

When I lived in the UK I paid £2/small bale 40/ton so price of £80/ton but when yields were low this more than doubled. 1997 and 98 hay was great in Scotland but in 99 prices soared.
 
I was quoted £6.50 a bale for Sussex - and in bulk. We normally pay £2, but no rain for the last 2 months so our second disastrous year. I had to pay £4.50 last year. They said they are importing hay from France, Denmark and Morocco (yes - Morocco - weird). Haylage still about the same price at £5.80 for a 40kilo bag.

No, I just bought the small bottes straight of the field this year, from a different source. I would say they weigh between 15 - 18 kg. The farmer who sells the large hestons won't release his 2011 bales until July.

I never had any problems sourcing hay, haylage or straw back home in Scotland. £3 for a small 25kg bale of hay. £25 - £30 for a round bale of haylage and 50p - £1 for a small bale of straw. All excellent quality. I am taking really badly to the quality of hay here in France, its awful. Very dusty and sometimes full of brambles, twigs and wood.

I find it depends who you buy from in France - our own hay is always fantastic quality and we buy from and old man who also makes great hay. In Scotland I bought Carse hay and generally it was good but wet summers make it expensive and poor 1999 was a bad year.

My husband was in Scotland a week ago and it was very cold, sleet in May which is no joke. We would never go back - it is easier keeping horses here and less mucking out.
 
I'm paying £6.25 small bale hay (V good quality) can get a big bale for between £60 - 90 but cant store one. Rumours abound that it is going to be more expensive next year. Have heard of someone paying £11 for a small bale !?!
 
Was paying £25 for big round bale that lasted me 3 months, when they ran out had to start on little bales £4 each but they've stopped now. Mixing with haylage now which is £5.50 a small green bale. God knows what prices will be soon, I'm just missing the big bales :(
