Are they worth the money?

There was a post on here just last week about these with some fantastic pictures for home made ones. They look just as good as the real thing at a fraction of the cost

No......... just get some big tub trugs

I've got fixed hard wood 'haybars' in some of my stables- I really love them. They are the sort you can fill from the outside. I get haylage everywhere though filling them

The tub trugs are easy to move around (what do you do if the vet etc asks you to remove hay from the stable?), easy to fill and not messy to carry, safe as they are soft and bendy and easy to clean out.

Not really....................but I do have one and love it (but got mine off ebay for £30 inc P&P new - a year or so ago, also got my friend one at the same time. That seller has now disappeared though). I would pay the RRP (what is it now £60-£70??), would just buy a large tug or just fix marine ply across one corner (my friend has done this and cut big holes in the ply too for extra access & air circulation.

I have them in each of my stables and I must say they are fantastic - they are quite expensive for some plastic but I think its worth it. I haven't got any wasted haylage and its so much more comfortable for the horse to eat in that position.

a load of us at our yard bought them at the same time, so got a discount. mixed opinions though - i like mine, some have reverted back to haynets as they found their horses just turfed all the hay out. if your horse would be ok with a haybar, then it'll probably be fine with a big tub trug.

I find mine hard to clean out as i had to fit it low for my shorty and didnt account for rubber mats so now i have to reach in from the top for most of the old hay and have heard a few giggles as my legs flail about in the air - one day someones going to shove me the rest of the way in.

not good for relationships either. nearly every couple fell out as the oh's blunted drill bit after drill bit fitting them!.. many complaints about their tools smell like horse pee too after rolling about the stable floor, maybe shouldn't have fitted them in the winter when the mats had been down for a while!.

sorry to drone - in answer to the original question - probably not worth the money, but i like mine. if you can get one cheap/used, would be ok.

Ongo - I am a short arse and the simple solution I found to cleaning out the botton is to put a rubber feed skip in. They are bendy enough to make an almost perfect fit and the handles still stick up giving me something within my reach to grab.

Works perfectly!

I love mine, both my horses have one. I know you can make cheaper ones but no one here is amazing at diy so I really didn't mind paying out for them.
