Hay been cut…

Im watching them wrap as we speak it’s not the best crop we have ever had but we don’t normally hay this particular field … stood here trying to count I think we will get about 60 x 5ft hestons which is enough for our horses so I will be happy with that …

Just love seeing it wrapped cos
I breathe a sigh of relief

Eta 76 bales off 8 acres … that’s quite good actually

Ours is being cut this week coming (well part of of it, the rest later on in the summer) will be nice to be able to ride on the fields a bit more - our bottom field holds the water really well so ground should be about perfect underneath it when it’s first cut 🙏

Our crop this year is down as well. I reckon weve got about 30 large bales., we usually get around 60. Had a neighbour offer me their field too, but the contractor couldnt get in as the access is awful.
Husband has just bought 20 from one of our customers. For the first time ever, im trying to get a 2nd cut. Then we are seeding the lot.
Unless we get some rain for a good second cut, there could well be a shortage.
I buy some in every year from a local supplier. Theyve emailed asking us to reserve some from this years crops as they want to make sure they look after existing customers before taking on new ones. So ive just reserved another 40 x 4 string.

My farmer who supplies barley straw for feeding has just told me that he will not have any this year. No winter barley made it and the spring barley he has sown is some environmental thing and not for harvesting.

We have small bales off our field, last year was 288, it was cut yesterday and looking at what's on the ground we will be lucky to get 70 bales..........
