Can they be soaked? And how long does one roughly last your pony/horse?

Just looking for something to feed when pony comes in for days in summer rather than sourcing/storing hay.

I don't soak mine and my greedy guts gets through his in 45 min but one of the 17.2hh on the yard takes nearly 2 hours!

I don't think it would be worth the cost anyway as the main advantage is the time they take chewing them .
They very very dust less if dust is the issue
 
I've just been looking at these for exactly the same purpose so will be interested to read what people have to say. Interested to know how many calories too?
 
I think if soaking chaff would be much more cost effective. I use the
Halleys Timothy/oat straw ones for my pony when he needs entertaining for a while and I don't want him having any more hay as I really need to keep his weight down. He gets through one in 45 mins but he would do an equivalent amount of hay in under 20 mins and won't eat oat straw ( or any straw ) even if he says he is starving. In summer I feed hay soaked for 12 hrs in a trickle type net.
 
yes they soak very well. I found this out when one of my ponies started putting his in the water bucket! one block in a full water bucket works a treat. The resulting gloop takes my pony a few hours to polish off bit by bit

just bought on to try with mine. never thought of perhaps soaking it as it is designed to take ages to eat due to being hard and dense. no reason no to though.
 
I soak them for at least 4 hours - in fact i leave them overnight and they fill a 20l tub. One of mine can eat a solid one in 10 mins, takes a bit longer once soaked.

I use the Halley's ones as they work out the best value and a good choice of grass/alfa types to choose from.
