I need my horse to feed from low down but need to keep the hay out of his shavings bed. Any suggestions. Thanks

a hay bar or I have bought a really big stubbs bucket type things that if packed full they hold enough hay for the night, there not the cheapest but I have some stubbs buckets that I have had for 11 years so they do last and are well worth the money they just don't split or break like some cheaper brands.

Half a blue barrel, a children's toy storage tub and a builders pallet crate are all in use on our yard. The builders pallet crate works very well and holds a full rectangular bale or hay, ideal for the 18 hand Clydesdale who eats his own weight in hay each night :)

I use 1/2 wine barrels to feed out hay in my paddocks as they are freely available here in the wine capital of NZ, however I am quite sure you could buy one at your local garden centre as they are sold as ornamental plant planters. They are pretty robust and don't move easily. You can drill holes in the bottom for drainage if needed.

I bought a Haycube last year to save my back (I have a chronic condition£ and it is the best thing I have ever done , well with the money in my opinion

I use a large wooden box. Horse does still sometimes make a mess and drag hay round his bed especially if ive given him too much but he can still manage it from a haynet too 🙄
