Because last summer seems such a long time ago and it was crap weather wise...I can't remember when people typically take the first cut of hay off the fields...assuming the weather conditions are right as they have been recently (touch wood!)
Anyone know at all?

We would normally be taking our first cut around now, but due to lack of rain the ground is cracked and desperate for water as the grass just isnt growing.

We tend to do it when the grass thickens up if that makes sense, at the moment it's still thin and tall.
Then of course it's weather dependent so anytime from mid June to end of July, although of course it isn't as nutritious then.
Last years' was cut very late, but the horses came through the winter looking wonderful on it, so there can't be that much difference in a lot of middle quality haylage and a smaller amount of top quality!
