I am just trying to work out how far my hay will go into the summer before needing more. I think I should be okay for the next couple of months until they start cutting. But then I would need to feed my lad new hay...should it be left a few months before feeding?
Unfortunately I don't want to buy a large quantity of last years hay as he is bothered by dusty stuff terribly but can't get the odd 6 bales or so to take him through the late summer period.
Will I be okay feeding him late cut but more or less off the field hay? He is on a small paddock as a Welshie and on mainly hay throughout summer and autumn to avoid excess weight issues.

We do our own and try and leave it a month. If it is made right it should be ok as long as you don't feed very large quantaties.

You should really leave it for a month to six weeks...depending on how wet it was when baled.
Why don't you bridge the hay gap with one of the widely available horsehages - I use Horsehage blue as it's high fibre, and suitable for laminitics and fatties.
