My hay supplier recently ran out of his own grown hay and has had to buy some in, the new hay looks ok, pleasant colour, not dusty or mouldy, but just doesnt smell particularily sweet, a kind of bland smell best describes it. I prefer it too smell sweeter...am I being too picky?? I'm tempted to switch to small bales of haylage...Any thoughts..??

When I got the local farmers field topping hay it was very bland smelling and thicker grass but that suited my good doer. I then had some very sweet hay from another farmer who grew it for hay specifically and it was very fine and wonderful. My horse prefered sweet stuff but he would eat either type. No problems.

Probably different type grass or was it old hay? Perhaps thats all they could get in.
