Dont know what everyone is paying for a small bale (wot does a small bale mean anyway, weightwise?)
Mine just gone up from £3.50 last week to £4.00.No wonder people cant afford to keep their horses. I get through 4 bales a week in winter (god thats £64 a month) and I know people who get through more. When I started with horses hay was £1.50 a bale for years and years. Just hope that a lot of the farmers get left with hay so they have to sell off cheap later !

god i fill for you , ive just brought myself 50 reels at £25 a reel , soon as i brought my lot the farmer put the rest up to £35

im paying £3 still but have been told that the price will rise after summer, you should think yourself lucky really if you look at some of the other hay threads on here people are pay as much an £7 for a small bale

Luckily mine is included in the price of my rent (we're on part livery) its a good job as we get through 5-6 bales a week depending how much they are in lol! im also fortunate its good quality. I doubt it would work out cheep if i had to pay extra for it lol.

Every year our local farmers/feed merchants say there's going to be a hay shortage. Every year it's for one reason or another, and the price of hay goes up. I can't remember when we last had a 'normal' year.
This year large square bales have gone up from £25 to £60. Small bales were £3.50 they're now £5 - 6 each. It's madness. Really glad I have enough grass to keep them out most of the winter.

Ours has gone up from £2.50 to £3.25 which I thought was plenty but reading what some of you pay makes me think I'm lucky!

We'd easily get through 3/4 a bale a day some days through the winter when they're kept it - praying for a cold winter so they can go out, YM keeps them in if it's wet.
