I prefer to feed from the floor or hay bar, however, my new boy is one greedy ******, so have been using a hay net with small holes.

I have no idea how or why he does it, but he has got caught on his hay net twice in as many weeks.

One rug had clips, so I fasten them with the clip to the inside...he still managed to get caught.

The other rug has buckles....he somehow managed to get the net caught on the buckle.

The nets are tied up with bale string and I dare not put my old horses John Whittaker rug on him, as the front fastenings are like surcingle fastenings, a disaster waiting to happen with this new boy and his hay net/ rug habit.

Any other ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Also, he needs a rug as he is clipped.

My horse got attached for the first time today in his field, he was so relieved to be released he had a quick blast around his field, another thing to worry about him while at work tomorrow, good tip about turning rug clips inwards, will do that from now on.

I also used to put a net inside my haybars. I like the position but my old boy would empty them if hay loose so this was the best solution.

Could you tie his haynet up higher? I always make sure the bottom of mine is head height so no legs or rugs can possibly get caught and they eat from the bottom so the hay falls down the net or wall mounted hay rack with haynets put in and tied up on tie rings on the wall behind the rack? Or just let him be a greedy so and so until he realises he's got plenty of hay and slows down?

Surprisingly i have found my greedy cob slows down eating when not fed from a haynet, not sure if its because he isnt having to fight for his food

I have been trying to come up with something similar , fatty pony stuffs loose hay and needs small hole net but I don't like haynets as prefer them to eat at ground level and can't really afford a haybar. Today I bought a v big heavy rubber trug have tied haynet through handle back through inside of net and tied off through other handle so secure with no rope outside to get caught up on, once he got over being scared off it, he was doing fine. Just off to check him now !
