What is your preference and why? :)

(I'm asking because I have 2 babies under 2yo who are currently fed unlimited hay).

Thanks in advance!

Hay!

Haylage will provide higher levels of energy and protein, which I doubt yours need at this stage.

You'll also need to provide more haylage than you would hay, to make up for the higher content of water and lower content of fibre.

My yearling has unlimited haylage because it's what I buy for the others, he is small and I am always hopeful for a growth spurt!

I always worry about mould spores in hay as several of mine cough if given hay (although obviously soaking it sorts that problem).

Thank you for the replies. My two have been a bit coughy of late on hay (wasting loads) and won't eat it when soaked.
I wondered if haylage could provide a happy alternative. One is a trad cob and the other dales, so both slow growers...
