Hay or Haylege?

We have 10 acres and very minimal storage. Last year we cut over 1000 small bales of hay. We sold two large lots straight off the field but we still had to store 500 bales outside under tarp. This year I was thinking about haylege which will be easier to store outside. The small bales are obviously easier to manage ect. but how popular are they?
What is the average price for small bale haylege in Wiltshire?
Do you prefer to use hay or haylege?

I would go the haylage route if you can then - easier to store and the quality (if you get it right in the first place) doesn't really vary. Probably charge about £6 - 7 each.

I use both, but I do know you need to be *really* careful when you make haylage as it can go off easily and can be very dangerous. Unless you have someone making it who knows what they are doing, and somewhere safe to store the bales so they dont get torn, I would stick to hay!
 
I use the small round bales of haylege as I only have one horse and if I had larger bales they would go off. I am sure there are many more people in the same situation so there would be a market for them. I pay £6.50 per bale but some places near me charge £7.50.
 
Play it safe with hay, mine have come down with lami for the first time in 20 yrs, and my only change has been feeding hayalge instead of hay last winter.
I will never buy haylage again.
 
I would stick to hay. My horses are only fed horsehage as I don't trust any other haylage brands....not sure how many other people feel like this...
