Hay pric3s

And I am struggling to sell 45+ small bales for £200 in Kent! It's late cut autumn 2024 and barn stored. Perfect for good doers/field or soaking. People say "oh but my horse may not eat it can I just try a couple of bales for free" 🙄
I just want to have the space back as one of mine can only have haylage now due to allergies so need storage.

Am going to take it to a local charity and give it away as people are doing my head in.

We've gone up to £7.50 from £5.50. I've enough to do me til the end of the month then I'll only need to buy in a few cos they'll be out (please god).

Expecting the price to have gone up again if they have any at all.

I am eyeing up 15kg plain hay chaff at £8 a bag and wondering whether that's a better choice to have in for the summer.

y as people are doing my head in.
I have heard that many times from farmers who supply customers with hay for horses. Try it for free, or they inspect it choose which they want then the horse doesn't like it and they want the farmer to transport it back or "can I have a discount for quantity" quantity is 5 bales. Alternatively they can't pay, can they pay next time, at the end of the month.

It has done the heads in of several of my farmer friends. The more "horsey" the area is the worst they find customers.

mine was £4.75 a bale delivered last week for 200 bales.

WOW!! that's a really good price.

My round bales have just gone up from £40 to £60 per bale. I'm hoping I've just had the last 2 delivered yesterday as the quality isn't the best. Hay itself is fine but it's full of docks and brambles so you don't get a 'full' bales worth. Felt a should stay loyal to my supplier as he has bent over backwards to ensure we are all supplied, not taken on new customers, bought in etc etc.

I'm going to shop around this summer and see if I can get a trailer load of wrapped hay again like I did a couple of years ago.

I don't think Devon, or at least parts of it, suffered anything like some other areas.
I normally get all my grass eaten by the end of the summer but I am now at the end of the foggage which I have never had sufficient grass for before. The ponies have been kept on foggage all winter and one horse has now come to the rescue to eat up the rest.

I’ve got some big round bales of soft 2026 hay to get rid of. Suffolk. As going into spring paddocks end month. Ive asked some horsey friends but they want it delivered. And are not interested. But are paying tripple what im selling. I’d be borrowing a trailer to collect at 45 pounds each round big bale I’ve noticed the prices have dropped too.

I’ve only got one fatty on hay at the moment, but it’s not that easy to get hold of small bales here! The big feed store is currently out of stock but was selling at £6.50/£7.50 depending on grade.
Managed to get some surplus a single horse owner was selling off on Facebook at £6 recently, nice enough stuff but bale fairly light.
Local hay merchant had in compressed bales from France at £7.50 with min order of 30 - but was too high in sugars for me

I was literally thinking about this last night as I’ve probably used 5 bales this winter. Not sure if I should sell or keep excess, I’ve got about 40 bales, some in barn and some under tarp in field.

We're still paying 38 per bale for large haulage bales. Minimum delivery is 5. Sometimes it is a blessing to live in a place with permanent rain or sea mist

£9.75 for small bales with my hay supplier, I've just brought some round bale haylage for £75 each, I'm hoping I have enough to last me into April and keeping my fingers crossed the grass will have got going by then.

I'm keeping mine, who knows what sort of summer we'll get? And thinking about it, mine were in far more last summer during the day than they have been overnight this winter, so my hay consumption was much higher then.

Hoping to get 4 haylage this week @ £55/bale, hope it will be OK, if its what I'm thinking it was made very late, possibly September

I'm a member of a hay and straw FB page (life is so rock an roll these days) and I've noticed a lot of farmers offering large (ish) quantities of hay to clear sheds for lambing etc. Just seen and advert for 200 round bales for £35 each in Yorkshire needing collecting by the weekend for lambing season to start. I think some people have sat on there stock a little to long. But others are asking the higher prices even for larger quantities and quick sales. I suppose it depends where in the country you are and how keen you are to sell.

Oh my gosh, I can't believe you are having issues getting rid of it 😱 If I had transport for it, I'd bite your hand off for it as this is the kind of hay I love for my native (we're over the border in Sussex) - but hope the charity appreciates it to make up for the hassle you've had 😊

Local feed merchants £10.95 per small bale - collection only.
Local farm £9.50 per small bale but they are running out.

Yard has just bought in pallets of compressed Scandinavian hay to cover any shortfall before the new stock comes in - approx £12-13/bale. We're having consumer refusals of some of the hay in the barn. Goodness knows why, it looks great. I very much appreciate the effort to make sure we have some, but I had to have a small sit down to recover...Hopefully I can pick up some overtime!

My hay supplier has just run out. Luckily, Ive got about 25 bales left. The oldies and young'un have been out 24/7 for a week now. The 3 competition boys will be living out soon. They are already eating much less hay when they come in at night. Come on grass, GROW

I bought my fertiliser today, at last years price per 25kg bag. I was told it would go up so get your orders in. I am going to try and get someone to cut it for round bales, if not they can have as foggage until it gets wet. I have 2 rounds left, which should do, and over estimated the fodder mash I would need so I am feeling relieved.
The lawn grass is growing, two ponies have been on it in the day time for the last five days, while I sort out their paddock.
