its winter again and the YO is complaining about hay prices and the amount of hay in each net ( we have ab-lib hay). I was just wondering what price per tonne, about 2 large square bales other people were paying.

Surely it depends on where the YO is buying it from. There are many suppliers of hay and their prices aren't consistent. Isn't a rectangular bale around 250kg?

Mums the Groom - maybe YO needs to revise his/her livery prices to cover the cost. I would expect at least £12 per week of the livery to be hay.

It would depend on how much they are getting at a time. Delivery of one bale will obviously work out more expensive than delivering 20 bales. However then you have to have sufficient storage, equipment to move bales etc...

At the hay and straw auctions this year here in Gloucestershire big (6 string hestons) were fetching £45 this was mostly if not all in bulk to dealers

Nb-this is according to OH who got all excited at having saved me this money by making our own!

hay in the west midlands is in short supply or so i am told by suppliers. as is straw. it was very wet at haymaking time and the june crop was thin.
