How much are you paying for hay? Exploring buying my own, as the hay supplied for liveries is really dusty and I found some 'mares tail' in it tonight :(

Norfolk, and from the grower, £6 for flat 10s. £5 for flat 8s. Mini Hestons £40-60, depending on density and weight.

I gave 12 acres of grass to a neighbour, and he made some excellent haylage, he got 94 round bales, and left me with 11. Considering the nitrogen and the spray, those bales must have cost me about £40 each!! Never mind, the ground came up beautifully clean, and there are currently 2 mares and some lambs on it.

We've had 3 previous years of drought, which pushed hay prices up, and this year with constant and near permanent spring and summer rain, hay making had to wait, and with no second crop, prices are again higher than they could be. Will we ever get another normal summer?

Alec.
