Hay reaches over £110 per bale at Stow Hay and straw sale

That's terrifying. So many people must be really struggling already. Things like this are just going to drive the prices up more and more.

Oh my life - that is horrendous. So far I've been very lucky with prices and availability, and I have enough until the end of Feb but after then who knows. Really is a worry isn't it - you can't not feed hay after all.

It is worrying, my hay man has enough for me until end of feb. I am just on the search for haylage, a lot of it is going quickly some even sold out! Going to find lots and but it in.

we are bedford area and a hayman offered £40 bale round hay to a farmer which wasnt the best and that was to be shipped to wales for sheep, farmer declined as needed it for his cattle, was told he would be better off selling cattle! and someone else put 2 bales in field for sheep and they were nicked.

omg! thats shocking! i pay £30 per big 5foot 6 rounds or £25 if i buy over 5. that is just stupid and totally insane

Basicly it seems that the top prices for very good hay were making about £350 per tonne, well that is £7.00 for a conventional bale. I think in the circumstances and with the early winter snow, they are quite realistic prices.Perhaps we will hear less talk about gready farmers now we have seen what the stuff is worth by auction.

Wow thats a shocker, I pay £30 a bale and its good quality hay and haylage.
I feel really sorry for those in areas where its in such high demand.
Our YO's grow their own, so the price doesn't really change.
Even at £30 though its still a killer in this weather, my lot are going through 2 bales per week!! x

Thats shocking!

We pay £4.50 for small bale hay, and straw is £2.50 a bale this year. We are just trying to figure out if shavings would be cheaper this year. :)
