As per my previous post, my girl cant have haylage for the time being so im currently feeding her topspec grass but my stockist has told me there is a shortage and wont be readily available. they have no stock of any other dried grass either. Any ideas what else I can feed?

Beet pulp (preferably unmolassed, but if you can't find any just rinse a few times) mixed with Hi-Fi (I would use senior, which has some grass in it instead of straw).

You should feed at least 1,5% of your horses body weight in fiber, so just calculate how much that is and feed equal amounts of beet pulp and Hi Fi (so its around 1 stubbs scoop of beet pulp for 3 of hi fi).

Fast Fibre is good as a hay replacer as long as your pony isn't greedy - my TB would take ages to get through a decent bucket full, but the native would hoover it up in minutes...
You could always mix the Fast Fibre with an unmolassed straw chaff to make it last a bit longer if pony is greedy - Honeychop do an unmolassed straw one.

We are having the same problem! Can't get either Graze-on or Readigrass but have been able to get TopSpec, although don't like the idea of soya oil coating. If we can't get any more TS we will give her Alfa-A, as she tolerates alfalfa well. We won't feed her anything with straw as we need to keep her weight up.

this is the problem, i need plenty of calories in her. Im going to do some ringing around on tues to see if i can buy a pallet form somewhere. just wish the grass would hurry up and come through then she can stay out and eat that!

Can you get grass nuts at all to soak into a mash? Or are they as hard to come by as the grass chaffs at the moment?

Ha! Good luck with that! The paddocks where I am on livery are like deserts! Barely a blade of grass to be seem.......it's going to be August at this rate before we get any grass!

Tell me about it! ours was just starting to shoot through before the snow came :(
