Just wondering if anyone uses Honeychop lite and healthy as full or partial hay replacer?

We have good grass and good hay and the cob is a bit rounder than I'd like ( I soak his over night net) . So was thinking that being mostly straw it must be lower in calories than hay so could maybe replace his afternoon hay with it or something.

Has anyone done this?

its the same as good hay, but they can eat significantly more chaff than hay in the same period of time. The oat straw is less than hay and much less appetising, which is why it works.

I buy in bales of oat or barley straw for my greedy ones. Mind you, I don't have huge amounts of grass, so I have to feed extra forage. DO you actually need to give yours extra if you have good grass, and he's already overweight?

Well yes he does need to be fed as he only goes out for a few hours currently. Can't have him.standing in with nothing to eat for hours.
