My horse cant have hay (he gets a cough) so at the moment he is on haylage. Hes a fatty cob, and Im a bit worried about his weight when it comes to spring/summer. Im hoping he will be out at night, and in during the day. Is there anything I can feed so that he doesnt have to have haylage during the day? I know he needs long fibre, but he will be grazing all night, so would it be ok just to give him a snack ball with high fibre pony nuts in to keep him occupied during the day? (He will probably sleep most of it away!!)

A bucket of hifi light would be a good option. Or soak your hay for half an hour, completely submerged. This is long enough for the spores to swell and stick so they are eaten, not breathed in

I was soaking his hay but he was still coughing so the vet said not to feed him hay at all

I suppose the other option is to make sure hes worked hard enough to burn off all those calories!
